To accommodate ongoing campus maintenance work, steam systems will be shut down campuswide from 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, through 6:00 a.m. Monday, August 10. The procedure will interrupt hot water service to all buildings on campus. Heat should not be affected, as campus buildings do not usually require heat at this time of year. Program areas and departments that specifically require hot water or steam service are being contacted individually and accommodated.
Your patience and understanding are appreciated. Questions about this project can be e-mailed to vpfm@buffalostate.edu. Please refer to the Facilities Planning website for the latest information about current or upcoming construction.

From the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities
The National Endowment for the Humanities invites applications for 2016 Summer Stipends to support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development.
Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Organizations are not eligible to apply.
The NEH encourages the submission of applications from independent scholars and faculty members at Hispanic-serving institutions, historically black colleges and universities, and tribal colleges and universities.
More information is available on the NEH website.
Nominating Procedures and Timetable
Faculty members teaching full time at colleges or universities must be nominated by their institution's nominating official to apply for a Summer Stipend. Each college and university in the United States and its jurisdictions may nominate two faculty members. Any faculty member is eligible for nomination. Buffalo State's nominating official is Benjamin Christy, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities. The academic deans will appoint a faculty committee to review proposals and recommend two nominees.
Please submit your proposal draft via e-mail by Wednesday, August 19. Applicants will be informed of their nomination status by Monday, August 31. Nominees will submit their applications via Grants.gov.

Buffalo State received information from SUNY System Administration on July 9 concerning the process to establish departmental allocations for July 1, 2015. This multi-part annual process takes approximately four to six weeks to complete and concludes with the posting of allocations at the account level. At this time, we anticipate that departmental allocations will be viewable at the account level in early September. We will advise you when allocations have posted to campus accounts.
Please call the Budget Office at 878-4312 with questions.

From the Chief of University Police
I am pleased to announce the appointment of James Byrne and Eric Meyer, university police officers, to the Buffalo State College University Police Department. Byrne and Meyer graduated from the Erie County Law Enforcement Training Academy in June, completing a 20-week course curriculum of approximately 800 hours of instruction that meets and in most cases exceeds New York State requirements as mandated by the Municipal Police Training Council. The curriculum comprises proficiency skill areas of training that include firearms, arrest techniques, emergency vehicle operation, use of force issues, community policing, and diversity issues. Byrne and Meyer will undergo extensive training with experienced officers in our departments field training program.
