Professional Development Webinar: Conquering Your Leadership Challenge with Political Savvy - September 23

The Professional Development Center will sponsor the webinar "Conquering Your Leadership Challenge with Political Savvy" on Wednesday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. in Butler Library 181B.

Leaders have numerous challenges they must overcome in the workplace. These could be anything from building acceptance for challenging revenue or performance objectives to addressing a teamwork issue or conflict, leading an initiative, or increasing employee motivation during difficult times. Organizational politics can be an obstacle to overcoming these challenges. Developing and enhancing your political savvy will not only allow you to effectively perform in your organization but also give you insights into how to overcome and conquer your challenges at work. Learn what political savvy means, why it's important, and how to develop it, as well as the different aspects of political savvy and how these aspects can help with your leadership challenge.

Light snacks will be provided.

Professional Development Workshop: Performance Planning and Development - September 22

The Professional Development Center will sponsor the session "Performance Planning and Development" on Tuesday, September 22, from noon to 2:00 p.m. in Butler Library 181B. (Please note the time change.)

Performance management can build relationships while ensuring high levels of work performance. Forms should summarize expectations and align the objectives of employees and supervisors. In this interactive session, participants will apply knowledge and tools to PEPDS forms, with greater understanding of the system. Light snacks will be provided.

Faculty Development Workshop: Teaching in the Twenty-First Century - September 30

The Professional Development Center is pleased to offer the next session in the Teaching Commons series, "Teaching in the Twenty-First Century," on Wednesday, September 30, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Butler Library 181B. National Survey of Student Engagement results indicate that twenty-first-century students want classrooms that have high levels of engagement and interest. In this session, Bill White, director of faculty development, will lead a discussion of high-impact practices that have been successful in higher-education classrooms. He will also summarize conversations surrounding curriculum and pedagogy that occurred as part of the spring 2015 One Buffalo State series.

The Teaching Commons series offers faculty and staff members the chance to share teaching successes and discuss ways to avoid common challenges.

Faculty Development Workshop: Collaborative Learning - September 15

The Professional Development Center will offer a workshop on collaborative learning on Tuesday, September 15, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Butler Library 181B. Collaborative learning is defined as a learning environment in which two or more people are engaged in an attempt to acquire new knowledge or skills. Recent research suggests that collaborative learning engages students by providing the opportunity to share ideas and co-construct knowledge. In this presentation, Bill White, professor and director of faculty development, will lead participants through a discussion of the importance of collaborative learning and ways in which this approach can be used in higher education classrooms. Light refreshments will be provided.
