Tell Students: Academic Skills Center - Workshops to Success Series

Posted:

The Academic Skills Center's Workshops to Success Series takes a brass tacks, just-in-time approach to student academic success. Sessions provide specific, immediately useful study techniques that are timed to students' pace through the semester. The center also hopes to build relationships with students that lead to one-on-one tutoring appointments. Remember, we make house calls! ASC staff members are happy to support faculty in their classrooms as well as at the center. We prefer to provide specific, identified information rather than simply showcasing general services. More information is available on the ASC website. Tell Students: AFP Presents Mirror/Rorrim - October 15

Posted:

Mirror/Rorrim, the latest original play created by Buffalo State and Anne Frank Project students, will be presented on Thursday, October 15, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Savage Theater.

Following their trip to Rwanda in January 2015, 12 students processed their experience through the creation of a new play inspired in Rwanda, developed at Buffalo State, and delivered to local Buffalo schools in fall 2015. Mirror/Rorrim follows Anna, a teenage girl who is filled with self-hate and personal judgment, as she is pulled into a fantastic journey that reveals her inner secrets and leads her to learn to love her own story. The 30-minute performance will be followed by a 40-minute workshop activating the lessons of the play.

This is not a ticketed event. Arrive early to get a seat.

Faculty and staff members who offer extra credit to students for attending Mirror/Rorrim may send a sign-in sheet to Eve Everette, assistant director of the Anne Frank Project.

Workshop: Preparing an Incentive Grant Proposal - November 12

Posted:

Do you want to get base funding for your research project? Do you want to launch your creative ideas? Buffalo State’s Research and Creativity Council (RCC) will conduct the workshop "Preparing an Incentive Grant Proposal" on Thursday, November 12, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 418. Feel free to bring a brown-bag lunch.

The Research Incentive Awards Program, sponsored by the RCC, funds a variety of research projects with the intention of enhancing future proposal submissions to outside agencies. Carol Darstein, director of Pre-Award and Contract Services, will provide an overview of the program, share examples of successful proposals, and offer tips for proposal preparation. Carol DeNysschen, Research and Creativity Council chair and a past recipient of the program, will be on hand to share her know-how in preparing a competitive application.

A successful research incentive proposal is one that is well-prepared, thoughtfully planned, and concisely packaged. The RCC wants to help make your research incentive proposal a success. This program will provide up to one-tenth of the funds (maximum request $7,000) that would be requested from an external sponsor. The funds should be used in a manner that will result in a higher quality submission, for example, preliminary survey research, graduate assistance on literature reviews, or travel expenses to meet with experts in the field. The only cost not supported by the program is salary for the faculty or staff member developing the grant.

The next competition is anticipated for January 2016.

RSVP to Gina Game, research compliance manager, by Friday, November 6.
