Come and celebrate Mass on the First Friday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the Newman Center Chapel. We gather for Mass and start the month with a renewed perspective. Stay for a cup of coffee afterward or take a cup to go. Our next First Friday Mass will take place on September 2.

Opiate/Heroin Overdose Workshop (Narcan Training): September 27

Weigel Health Promotions will host an Opiate Overdose Workshop through Horizon Health Services on Tuesday, September 27, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in Classroom Building B118.

Prescription opiates and heroin are a serious concern in Western New York and the nation as a whole. Horizon Health Services offers trainings on Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of opiate overdose and give victims a chance at survival. This workshop will cover how to identify if a user is in active overdose, how to administer Narcan, and how to get victims the help they need. All participants will leave with a free Narcan kit.

Annual Convocation and Mass of the Holy Spirit: September 11

The Newman Center will gather as a community of faith to formally open the academic year and celebrate the Annual Convocation and Liturgy of the Holy Spirit on Sunday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. We welcome all members of the community to join with students, staff, faculty, family, and friends for Mass. This year, we will honor and present the John Henry Cardinal Newman Award to Stephanie Kindzia, Linda Rainforth, and Pamela Steffan of the Financial Aid Office in recognition of their support of Catholic Campus Ministry. Reverend Zachary Miller, a Buffalo State 2008 graduate, will preside.

Faculty and staff members are invited to march in the academic procession. Academic regalia is encouraged. A light reception will follow the Mass. Paws for Love Therapy Dog: September 14

Weigel Health Promotions will host a therapy dog through the Erie County SPCA’s Paws for Love program on Wednesday, September 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Weigel Health Promotions table in the Campbell Student Union lobby. Therapy dogs are a great way to relieve stress during some of the most difficult parts of the semester. We encourage everyone in the Buffalo State community to stop by and say hello to our furry friend to relieve some stress.

Horizon Health Services Therapy Dog Workshop: September 7

Weigel Health Promotions will host a therapy dog workshop through Horizon Health Services on Wednesday, September 7, at 1:00 p.m. in Bacon Hall 117.

Therapy dogs are a great way to relieve stress during some of the most difficult and stressful parts of the semester. They are capable of much more than you might think, so come and learn about all that our working four-legged friends have to offer. A therapy dog will be present to pet throughout the program.
