The following have been received in the College Senate Office and forwarded to the College Senate Curriculum Committee for fall 2019 review:

New Courses:
NFS 612 Nutrition Communication and Consultation. Prerequisite: NFS 405 or verification statement. Required communication competencies for the graduate dietetics student related to cultural competence, nutrition counseling, coding and billing for nutrition services, leadership, and nutrition informatics. Employs competency-based education (CBE). Offered occasionally, beginning fall 2020.

THA 339 Sounds Design for Theater. Prerequisite: THA 234 or instructor permission. Sound design and use of sound technology for theater and live performance. Students explore the aesthetics, dynamics, and technology needed to create effective sound environments for the stage. Includes mandatory attendance of live performance. Offered biannually, beginning spring 2020.

Course Revision with Intellectual Foundations Designation:

DAN 220 Ballet Technique I. Basic appreciation of the origins of classical ballet. Students develop an understanding of classical dance through instruction of ballet technique; the influential aesthetic elements that define basic ballet, a codified physicality and terminology, and cultural and historical influences. Students attend live dance performance. Offered every semester, beginning spring 2020.

The CSCC will continue to honor proposals submitted on old templates until November 2019. Please refer to the new CSCC Handbook for policies, procedures, and additional guidelines when authoring a curriculum proposal.

ADE 641 Organization Development. Prerequisite: Graduate standing. Systematic approaches to sustainable planned change in organizations emphasizing the interrelatedness of social and technical systems as well as group and individual-level interventions. Application of theories from adult education and human resource development to practical problems facing organizations, including performance improvement, diversity and inclusion, and organizational learning. Offered annually, usually in the spring semester, beginning fall 2020.

Minor in Coaching

New Courses:
NFS 607 Experiential Learning in Weight Management and Diabetes. Prerequisites: CHE 322, NFS 302, and NFS 402 or verification statement. Focus on the biochemical basis and treatment of obesity and diabetes. Addresses required competencies for the graduate dietetics students. Explores techniques for measuring body composition and energy expenditure including indirect calorimetry. Includes selected content required for the interdisciplinary obesity and weight management and certified diabetes educator credentials, including medication management. Emphasis on primary literature. Employs competency-based education (CBE). Offered occasionally, beginning fall 2020.

NFS 609 Experiential Learning in Advanced Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Prerequisites: NFS 403 and NFS 430 or verification statement. Addresses required advanced medical nutrition therapy (MNT) related competencies for graduate dietetics students. Applies evidence analysis process. Explores MNT outcomes for malnutrition interventions in acute care, long-term care, home care, and community settings. Includes selected content for the certified nutrition support clinician credential, e.g., managing nutrition electrolytes and glucose management. Employs competency-based education (CBE). Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2021

PHI 360 Africana Philosophy. Prerequisite: One PHI or AAS course. Philosophical thought across the African diaspora. Both historic and contemporary responses to issues specific to the black experience across the globe, such as understanding freedom, rationality, and humanity from the position of the formerly enslaved and/or colonized, and analysis regarding the intersections of race, gender, and white supremacy. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2020.

HPR 202 Techniques and Theories of Soccer. Prerequisite: HPR 126 (formerly HPR 300). Basic underlying philosophies, techniques, and theories for planning, organizing, and managing soccer programs in educational settings, e.g., high school. Intended for prospective soccer coaches. Application of the principles and practices of coaching a soccer team. Active participation in practical coaching scenarios under the guidance and supervision of a New York State certified coach.  Offered fall semester, beginning spring 2020.

HPR 205 Techniques and Theories of Track and Field. Prerequisite HPR 126 (formerly HPR 300). Basic underlying philosophies, techniques, and theories for planning, organizing, and managing track and field programs. Intended for prospective track and field coaches. Application of the principles and practices of coaching a track and field team. Active participation in practical coaching scenarios under the guidance and supervision of a qualified coach. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2020.

HPR 207 Techniques and Theories of Baseball/Softball. Prerequisite HPR 126 (formerly HPR 300). Basic underlying philosophies, techniques, and theories for planning, organizing, and managing baseball/softball programs in educational settings, e.g., high school. Intended for prospective baseball/softball coaches. Application of the principles and practices of coaching a baseball team. Active participation in practical coaching scenarios under the guidance and supervision of a New York State certified coach. Offered every semester, beginning spring 2020.
