COM 447 Communication Data Analytics. Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing. Exploration of publicly available data and user-generated data; application of communication theory and research in data analytics; attention to tools and methods in communication data analytics; focus on ethical responsibilities of data scientists; experience in using statistical software and Python. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2020.

COM 547 Data Analytics for Strategic Communication. Prerequisite: Graduate standing. Exploration of publicly available data and user-generated data; application of communication theory and research in data analytics; attention to tools and methods in communication data analytics; focus on ethical responsibilities of data scientists; intensive practice in using statistical software and Python. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2020.

ENT 340 Building Information Modeling (BIM) Using Revit MEP. Prerequisite: ENT 332 or ENT 331 or instructor permission. Drawing techniques for 3-D parametric solid modeling of MEP systems (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) using Autodesk Revit BIM (building information modeling) software. Revit facilitates design of buildings and their elements, such as MEP systems, in 3-D, enabling coordination and change management in design documentation extensively used in industry. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2020.

ENT 350 Electrical Codes and Standards. Prerequisite: ENT 332 or ENT 331 or equivalent. Introduction to national and international codes and standards predominantly referenced in electrical design, construction, and maintenance throughout the United States. Offered occasionally, beginning spring 2020.

ENT 360 Smart Buildings and Energy Efficiency. Prerequisite: ENT 345 or instructor permission. Introduction to control techniques of various building systems, including heating, ventilation, lighting, elevators, security, and energy management. Energy efficiency, metering, integration of renewables, distributed generation, computational analytics, and service considerations. Offered occasionally, beginning spring 2020.

New Course with Intellectual Foundations Designation:
MATHEMATICS AND QUANTITATIVE REASONING
DSA 201 Foundations of Data-Oriented Computing with Python. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Introduction to data-oriented programming and algorithmic problem solving using Python. Hands-on, project-oriented class incorporating problems from many fields. Offered fall semester, beginning spring 2020.

The following has been received in the College Senate Office and forwarded to the College Senate Curriculum Committee fall 2019 review:

New Course:
PHI 335 God and Religion. Prerequisite: One PHI course. Application of philosophical reasoning and methodology to matters concerning God and religion. Traditional proofs of God’s existence and critiques of these proofs; the problem of evil and various responses to this problem; alternatives to the traditional proofs; differences between faith and reason; and defenses and critiques of religious worldviews. Offered every third semester, beginning fall 2020.

Any proposal that is approved pending revisions (APR) should be acted on immediately to prevent delays. All proposals go through KissFlow. The CSCC will continue to honor proposals submitted on old templates until November 2019. Please refer to the new CSCC Handbook for policies, procedures, and additional guidelines when authoring a curriculum proposal.
