New Library Exhibit: Bengal Pride

Posted:

Butler Library invites the community to explore its new exhibit that highlights materials celebrating Buffalo State’s past. Located in the entrance lobby of Butler Library, this sampling of collections from the library and the college archives praises sometimes ephemeral—but always rare or unique—objects from our extensive holdings that speak to our past. From representations of our past physical locations to extolling our “Bengal Pride” to examples of gifts to our students and donors, this exhibition presents artifacts garnered from college departments as well as from our many generous donors.

Please take a look at some of the artifacts from our fine past—and think about our outstanding future to come!

Posted:

Please join us for the professional development opportunity "The Times Are Changing: Strategies to Personally Manage Transitions at Work" on Thursday, October 26, from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. in Butler Library 181B.

Organizational change can be coupled with feelings of excitement, fear of the unknown, resistance, ambivalence, anxiety, and many other emotions; however, as individuals identify their style for dealing with change, what changes they can and cannot control, and their purpose within a change effort, they may begin to feel more comfortable with workplace transitions. This session will provide participants with a framework for exploring their reactions to change, strategies to effectively manage change, and an opportunity to explore their purpose within a changing organization.

Light snacks will be provided. Please register through our online Workshop Registration System.

Flex Spending Account Open Enrollment Ends Today

Posted:

Open enrollment for the 2018 NYS Flex Spending Account (FSA) closes at midnight today, November 6. The account offers two benefits: the Health Care Spending Account (HCSAccount) and the Dependent Care Advantage Account (DCAAccount).

The HCSAccount allows employees to set aside from $100 to $2,600 annually in pretax salary to pay for health-care expenses not reimbursed by health insurance.

The DCAAccount allows employees to set aside up to $5,000 annually in pretax salary for eligible child care, elder care, or disabled dependent care expenses. The DCAAccount employer contribution will be available to M/C employees and those represented by CSEA, PEF, or GSEU for the 2018 plan year. Future availability of the employer contribution for other unions depends on the outcome of negotiations between the state and the unions.

Employees who do not work for 26 pay periods should consider electing a shorter time frame for their deductions so they do not lose coverage while off the payroll. For example, faculty members who are not paid through the summer should elect to have all deductions taken in the spring semester in order to have coverage for all of 2018.

Participants currently enrolled in the HCSAccount or DCAAccount must re-enroll to continue benefits in 2018. Paperless enrollment is quick, easy, and secure. For program details or to enroll in the FSA, please visit www.flexspend.ny.gov or call the FSA hotline at (800) 358-7202.

Today's deadline for 2018 enrollment will be strictly enforced.

About Our Theme
Our increasingly divisive world is actually the product of a small number of powerful communities rather than the multiple diverse groups of people whose stories are often silenced by oppression, or simply unknown. AFP 2017 encourages presenters and participants to surface these marginalized communities, navigate their difficulties, address conflicts, disassemble assumptions, and practice sharing stories to connect communities and improve the world.

Let’s share stories and strengthen our community. Use the links below to get involved.
