Tickets on Sale for 'Intimate Apparel'

Posted:

The Buffalo State Theater Department and Casting Hall Productions proudly present Intimate Apparel, a play by Lynn Nottage, in the Donald Savage Building's Flexible Theatre.

Directed by Lara D. Haberberger, lecturer of theater. Featuring student actors Keion Abrams, Shae Brockington, Roselynn Corrado, Monique Godfrey, Aqueira Roberts Oshun, and Nathaniel Schumacher, and student lighting designer Mariah Faulkner.

Intimate Apparel tells the story of Esther, an African American seamstress in 1905 Manhattan, who makes exquisite undergarments for high-end clients and embarks on an unlikely romance. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage stitches together a tale of romance, greed, and ambition—and a tender story of seeking real friendship across the vast social gulf separating a seamstress and a socialite, the yearning of inter-racial as well as interfaith love, and the persistence of spirit as Esther tries to craft a life as beautiful as one of her camisoles.

Four performances only: October 9, 10, 11, at 8:00 p.m., and October 12 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Rockwell Hall Box Office, 878-3005, or online.

Call for Submissions: ‘Label Me Latina/o – (Un)natural Disasters: Sites of Resistance’

Posted:

A call for scholarly and creative submissions for a summer 2020 special issue of the journal Label Me Latina/o is now open. The theme is “(Un)natural Disasters: Sites of Resistance.” Label Me Latina/o is a refereed international e-journal dedicated to Latino literary production in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Lorna Perez, associate professor of English, serves as guest editor of the special issue.

Critical and creative manuscripts should address moments of disaster and crisis in Latino communities, as well as the ways that communities, writers, scholars, and activists resist them. For many Latino/a communities, the contemporary period has been fraught with disaster, including natural disasters like Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017, followed by the equally disastrous federal response; the sustained crisis at the U.S. southern border; workplace raids by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement; indefinite separation and detention of children and families; and the U.S. response to the crisis in Venezuela.

The special issue of Label Me Latina/o invites submissions that consider these and other moments of (un)natural disaster and crisis. Complete details, including submission guidelines, are available online. Please contact Dr. Perez with questions.

Needed Items for Milligan's Food Pantry

Posted:

An overwhelming number of students have ordered from Milligan’s Food Pantry this semester, and we are asking our Buffalo State family to help out. Each Friday, our office will post a list of high-need items in the Daily Bulletin. If you are out grocery shopping on the weekend and can pick up one or two items, that would greatly help. Please drop off donations at the Dean of Students Office in Campbell Student Union 311 or e-mail the office to arrange a pickup.

This week we are requesting breakfast items for our students. Needed items include dry cereal, breakfast bars, trail mix, fruit snacks (including ones without gelatin in the ingredients), Rice Krispie Treats, granola bars, Pop-Tarts, fruit cups, snack packs (e.g., cookies, crackers, nuts), applesauce, and peanut butter.

Additional items are welcome. We only ask that you please make sure donated items are not expired. Thank you!
