Professional Development Workshop: 'Meeting Students Where They Are: Being Mindful of Financial Aid Implications When Advising Students' - October 22

Posted:

Please join us for the professional development workshop “Meeting Students Where They Are: Being Mindful of Financial Aid Implications When Advising Students,” presented by Sara Reese, assistant director of the Academic Commons; Linda Rainforth, associate director of financial aid; and Cynthia Syracuse, program aide in the Student Accounts Office, on Tuesday, October 22, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in Chase Hall 109.

Each semester, roughly 1,000 Buffalo State College students are either notified that they have lost their financial aid eligibility or given a warning that they could lose their financial aid eligibility if their academic standing does not improve. Faculty and staff members who advise students can help guide them toward smarter academic choices to keep them on track to retain or regain financial aid eligibility, which is vital for increasing student persistence to graduation. This workshop will address the relationship between academics and financial aid and how those who advise students can help them maintain their financial aid eligibility.

Workshop participants will learn

  • what information to consider before advising a student to add, drop, or repeat a course or increase or decrease a course load to ensure that his or her financial aid eligibility is not at risk, and
  • how and when Buffalo State reviews academic progress and determines financial aid eligibility.

Get your Financial Aid questions answered and be a part of this campuswide dialogue.

Light snacks will be provided. Please register through the Workshop Registration System.

Survey: Bulk E-mail Client Needs Assessment

Posted:

Information Technology is assessing the need for a bulk e-mail solution to assist faculty and staff members with sending mass e-mail messages to key constituencies.

In an effort to assist in this assessment, we are asking the campus community to help us better understand office, department, and program needs regarding the sending of mass/bulk e-mail.

To gather information, we have created an online survey with fewer than 10 questions. Please answer all questions to the best of your ability.

Thank you for helping us identify a solution to meet our campus needs.

Tickets on Sale for 'Intimate Apparel'

Posted:

The Buffalo State Theater Department and Casting Hall Productions proudly present Intimate Apparel, a play by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Lynn Nottage, in the Donald Savage Building's Flexible Theatre.

Directed by Lara D. Haberberger, lecturer of theater. Featuring student actors Keion Abrams, Shae Brockington, Roselynn Corrado, Monique Godfrey, Aqueira Roberts Oshun, and Nathaniel Schumacher, and student lighting designer Mariah Faulkner.

Intimate Apparel tells the story of Esther, an African American seamstress in 1905 Manhattan, who makes exquisite undergarments for high-end clients and embarks on an unlikely romance. Nottage stitches together a tale of romance, greed, and ambition—and a tender story of seeking real friendship across the vast social gulf separating a seamstress and a socialite, the yearning of inter-racial as well as interfaith love, and the persistence of spirit as Esther tries to craft a life as beautiful as one of her camisoles.

Two performances remaining: Friday, October 11, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 12, at 2:00. p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Rockwell Hall Box Office, 878-3005, or online.
