The African Diaspora Project 2020

Posted:

The African Diaspora Project at Buffalo State College, hosted by the Student Leadership and Engagement Office, returns for its second year in 2020 with the theme “The Royal Return.” The project brings awareness to the rich history and manner of which diasporic countries came to be and where they derived from. Highlighting a rich legacy of kingdoms, royalty, and an abundance of resources, The Royal Return ADP 2020 month of programming focuses on global connections but also illustrates ways to utilize resources, showcase rich talents, and actively experience multiculturalism.

Furthermore, to commemorate Black History Month, a series of free events has been created to cultivate awareness, celebration, inclusion, and participation in the African Diaspora Project 2020. Our office extends an invitation to the campus community to participate and attend the events listed below. For additional information and opportunities to collaborate, please contact Ashley C. Goodwin, assistant director for student leadership and engagement, 878-4631.

Today: American Red Cross Blood Drive

Posted:

The American Red Cross will hold its next campus blood drive Tuesday, February 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. Presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt. Call (800) RED-CROSS or visit the Red Cross website to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Did you know that cancer patients use nearly one-quarter of the blood supply, more than patients fighting any other disease? And there simply aren’t enough people donating regularly to meet the need. Five units of blood are needed every minute of every day to help someone going through cancer treatments. Yet, only 3 percent of the American public donates blood in a given year. Blood transfusions are often essential to fighting cancer. For those undergoing chemotherapy treatments while battling cancer, a blood transfusion can give them the strength to keep fighting. One in three people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer in his or her lifetime. Thank you for joining the American Red Cross to “Give Blood to Give Time” to someone in need.

Call for Applications: Research and Creativity Incentive Program

Posted:

The Research and Creativity Incentive Program (RCIP) is accepting applications until 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, for funds to promote faculty research, scholarly, and creative activities. An electronic copy of the entire proposal, signed by the principal investigator (PI) and the PI’s department chair and dean, should be submitted via e-mail to Jessica Berg, director of pre-award and contract services. Three members of the Research and Creativity Council (RCC) have been appointed to review all applications received by the deadline.

Incentive funds administered by the RCC are intended to promote faculty research and scholarly and creative activities. The ultimate goal of an award from the RCIP is to receive an external award to continue research or a scholarly or creative activity. At the end of the award period, recipients are required to submit a report documenting the use of the funds. They are then required to submit a grant proposal within the following year to an outside sponsoring agency through the Sponsored Programs Pre-Award and Contract Services Office. Submitting a proposal through the Buffalo State College Foundation does not meet this requirement. Recipients are also obligated to participate in the Faculty and Staff Fall Forum.

Expenditures considered for support under this program include travel to consult with a funding source or program officer or to a workshop sponsored by a potential sponsor; student assistance; consultation with specialists in the field; preparation of specialized support materials for proposals (e.g., graphs, drawings, resource books); and release time. Funds may not be requested for the purchase of computers, laptops, etc. Also, it is not the council’s intention to directly pay an individual for writing a proposal. Please contact Jessica Berg with questions regarding the incentive application.
