Today: Chiavetta's Fundraiser for the Child Care Center

The Chiavetta's chicken barbecue fundraiser to benefit the Buffalo State College Child Care Center takes place today, February 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union lobby.

Lunches are $12 (while supplies last) and include barbecued chicken prepared by Chiavetta's, tossed salad, potato salad, and a roll. There will also be a bake sale during this event.

Please support the campus Child Care Center while enjoying a delicious Chiavetta's barbecue lunch. For more information, please call the Buffalo State Child Care Center at 878-5335.

Registrar's Office: Spring 2020 Waitlists Turned Off January 28

Waitlists for the spring 2020 semester will be turned off at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, January 28 (the end of the second day of classes). When waitlists are turned off, students are no longer able to add themselves to any waitlist; however, students who are already on a waitlist may still be able to register for the class if a seat becomes available before the end of the drop/add deadline, which is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, February 2.

Tell Students: File Your Taxes for Free on Campus

In partnership with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, the Civic and Community Engagement Office (CCE) will offer free self-assisted tax return–preparation sessions on campus for students, alumni, community members, faculty, and staff in February, March, and April. This Facilitated Self Assistance (FSA) tax services opportunity will allow participants to complete and file their New York state and federal taxes. Department of Taxation and Finance staff members and volunteers will provide an overview of the computer software; attendees will have 90 minutes to complete their filing.  

Sessions will be offered February 28, March 13 and 27, and April 3 and 10 at 10:00 a.m., noon, and 2:00 p.m. in Bacon Hall 123. Registration is encouraged. More information, including session registration, is available on the CCE website.

Each Alternative Break experience provides students with the opportunity to dig deep into a particular social justice issue through hands-on projects with community partners. Throughout the experience, they'll gain leadership skills, take action, and make a difference alongside a team of 10 other Buffalo State students.

The Alternative Summer Break trip, Creating Access to Education Success for Youth, May 17–22, will allow students to take action around the educational achievement gap and provide support for community organizations influencing Baltimore youth.

Students interested in participating in one of two Alternative Spring Break service trips must submit their online application by 11:59 p.m. Monday, February 10. Applications and trip details can be found on the CCE website

Each Alternative Break experience provides students with the opportunity to dig deep into a particular social justice issue through hands-on projects with community partners. Throughout the experience, they'll gain leadership skills, take action, and make a difference alongside a team of 10 other Buffalo State students.

This spring, students have the option to apply for one of two Alternative Spring Break experiences: 

  • Conserving the Environment at Sky Meadows State Park, March 21–28, where they'll work on environmental conservation projects like trail building and tree planting alongside Virginia State Park staff.
  • Building Partnerships with Our Refugee and Immigrant Neighbors, March 22–26, where they'll volunteer with local nonprofits focused on the refugee and immigrant communities in Buffalo.

Tell Students: Alternative Break Information Sessions: February 4, 6

Please join the Civic and Community Engagement Office to learn more about this semester's three alternative break service trips and how you can get involved during an information session on Tuesday, February 4, or Thursday, February 6, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Classroom Building B106. Each weeklong alternative break trip experience focuses on a particular social justice issue that you'll learn more about through hands-on projects with nonprofit community organizations. Throughout the experience, you'll gain leadership skills, take action, and make a difference alongside a team of 10 other Buffalo State College students.

Information sessions will cover what you can expect if you apply for an alternative break trip, including service projects, housing accommodations, transportation details, and more. Information about the application process, fundraising and scholarship opportunities, and pre-trip orientation meetings will also be discussed.
