'Ensemble Dropbox' - August 5

As we prepare for fall 2020, please join us for the webinar " Ensemble Dropbox," presented by Todd Benzin, educational technology specialist, on Wednesday, August 5, from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m.

While students at Buffalo State do not have Ensemble Video accounts, instructors can create an Ensemble dropbox to allow students to submit videos and audio files to their instructors for class. This workshop will walk you through the steps of creating an Ensemble Video dropbox and how to post a direct link to the dropbox in your Blackboard Learn course.

Google Chrome or Firefox is highly recommended as a browser. If you have a webcam and microphone, that's great. If not, you should be able to get everything you need as long as your headset or speakers are working.

With Ensemble Video, you now have the ability to easily create quizzes embedded in your videos and then publish them in Blackboard Learn. Come and see how to use this new feature and take your assessments to the next level.

This session explores metacognition in remote environments. Metacognition encourages us to be intentional about the processes we engage in (e.g., driving, cooking, building a business, teaching, learning). Those engaged in metacognition are aware of what’s working, what’s not, and when they need to make adjustments. This session will offer ways to help students learn about their own learning.

As we prepare for fall 2020, please join us for the webinar "Remote Learning Is HIP (High-Impact Practice)," presented by John Draeger, director of the Teaching and Learning Center, on Tuesday, August 4, from 3:00 to 3:50 p.m.  

High-impact practices (HIPs) have been shown to significantly improve student retention and academic achievement. HIPs involve activities requiring a significant investment of student effort over time with multiple interactions between faculty and students about substantive matters as well as opportunities for frequent feedback and structured reflection. This webinar will take a fresh look at how to bring inquiry-based activities into an online environment and how to up the HIP quotient of the course.

As we prepare for fall 2020, please join us for the webinar "Creating Online Lecture Videos Using PowerPoint," presented by Pamela Schuetze, professor of psychology, on Tuesday, August 4, from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m.

We will discuss several easy steps to convert PowerPoint slides into online lecture videos. Narrating PowerPoint adds a human touch for your students and allows you expand on the information provided in the visuals on the slides. We will also discuss how to convert the narrated PowerPoint into a video that can be uploaded into Ensemble and Blackboard.

As we prepare for fall 2020, please join us for the webinar "Upload Video and Create Playlists (Ensemble)," presented by Todd Benzin, educational technology specialist, on Tuesday, August 4, from 1:00 to 1:50 p.m.

Ensemble is the media server solution that allows the Buffalo State community to store, manage and publish their audio and video files into an LMS such as Blackboard and on other websites. This session will focus on adding videos into your Ensemble account, creating playlists for those videos, and publishing your videos and playlists to Blackboard Learn courses. Buffalo State is currently using version 5.4 of the platform.
