'Transitioning Service-Learning Projects for the Virtual World' - August 11

Posted:

The Teaching and Learning Center and Applied Learning are pleased to announce "Transitioning Service-Learning Projects for the Virtual World," the next workshop in our conversation series in preparation for remote and hybrid learning in the fall, on Tuesday, August 11, from noon to 1:00 p.m.

The series will look at a number of topics centered on applied learning in an online environment. A short presentation will be followed by a discussion exploring ways we can design new activities or adapt or revise current projects.

This talk, presented by Lori Ann Woods, lecturer in the College Writing Program, will look at ways in which service-learning projects can be adapted to remote learning. It will focus on experiences that are safe for students and community partners during the COVID-19 pandemic while still meeting course objectives. The discussion will focus on the transition that Ms. Wood's CWP 102 class had to make last semester from hands-on service-learning opportunities to remote service learning. This will be a short presentation followed by discussion.

Please register through the Workshop Registration System.

Please join us for the webinar "Community-Engaged Learning in Remote and Online Environments: Planning for Fall 2020" on Wednesday, August 19, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

In this session, participants will explore opportunities to connect academic content to community priority through remote and online learning and come away with strategies and project ideas, as well as learn from successful course experiences this past semester.

Facilitated by Laura Hill Rao, director of civic and community engagement; Meghan Pereira, director of instructional design and taining; Joy Guarino, service learning faculty coordinator and professor of theater; and Drew Hemler, lecturer in the Health, Nutrition, and Dietetics Department.
