In Memoriam: Adrian Solomon

The Buffalo State University community is saddened by the death of Adrian Solomon, professor emeritus of social work, who died February 22, 2024. Dr. Solomon joined the campus in 1968 and retired in 1991. He is survived by three children and two grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in Valhalla, New York. More information is available online.

Drop Hammer Reading Series featuring Anne Panning: February 29

Special guest Anne Panning will read from her work at the next Emanuel Fried Drop Hammer Reading Series on Thursday, February 29, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 218. Dr. Panning has published a memoir, Dragonfly Notes: On Distance and Loss (2018), and a novel, Butter, as well as two short story collections: The Price of Eggs and Super America, which won the Flannery O'Connor Award and was featured as a New York Times Editor's Choice. She has published short prose and poetry in dozens of literary magazines such as Prairie Schooner, The Kenyon Review, River Styx, Quarterly West, and Brevity (5X). She is currently working on a memoir, Bootleg Barber: A Daughter's Memoir, about her late father a barber and addict as well as a poetry collection, Spit & Glitter. Originally from rural Minnesota, she teaches creative writing at SUNY Brockport.

This event, sponsored by the Buffalo State English Department, is free and open to the public. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Tell Students: IPDS Information Session - Tomorrow

IPDS Italy and IPDS Dominican Republic program leaders will host a joint virtual information session for interested students tomorrow, February 28, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. via Zoom.

The Michael and Nancy Chicola International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) Consortium provides opportunities for teacher candidates and students interested in working with children and youth to experience classrooms and communities abroad. The IPDS Italy and IPDS Dominican Republic programs include a 3-credit fall semester 2024 course followed by two and a half weeks in either Torremaggiore, Italy, or Cabarete, Dominican Republic, in January 2025.

The programs are open to Buffalo State undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines and are a good fit for those interested in working with children and youth in schools or centers and learning about human development.

'Beyond and Back': International PDS Showcase - Today

Please join the Michael and Nancy Chicola International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) Consortium for the annual Beyond and Back PDS Showcase today, March 5, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Halls.

Hear reflections from IPDS alumni and speak with program leaders to learn about upcoming teach and study away programs, and the many ways to become involved in classrooms and community centers abroad. Hope to see you there.
