One-on-One Consultations with TIAA

Edmund Haspett from TIAA will be on campus for individual consultations with Buffalo State faculty and staff members on the following dates between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 416:

  • Tuesday, October 1
  • Wednesday, October 2
  • Monday, November 18
  • Tuesday, December 17

Appointments are required. Please visit the TIAA website to schedule an appointment or call (800) 732-8353 weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. There is no cost for these consultations.

No matter where you are in life just getting started or planning for retirement a consultation session can help you create a plan for your goals. You'll get answers to these questions and more:

Graduation Application Deadlines 2024-2025

The Registrar's Office has posted the graduation application deadlines for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Please encourage students to review their Degree Works audit to make sure all requirements have been met or are in progress before they apply. Premature applications will not be accepted. Students who have missed the deadline or are unable to apply online should send a request to regofc@buffalostate.edu. Applying after the deadline may delay the awarding of a degree.

Instructions for completing the graduation application in Self-Service Banner are available on the Graduation Preparation web page.

Supervisor Training Academy Accepting Applicants

The Continuing Professional Studies Office is again offering the foundational Supervisor Training Academy: The Holistic Communicator on Fridays October 11, October 25, and November 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and November 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The training covers such topics as emotional intelligence, setting expectations, giving and receiving feedback, and running effective meetings.

The Supervisor Training Academy provides a dynamic and safe environment where lived and educational experiences combine to create a personalized, practical, and professional road map for growth. Designed exclusively for top-performing employees ready to step into supervisory roles, our academy transforms high achievers into exceptional leaders. Our programs use a combination of in-person training and virtual coaching to provide participants with support as they implement new strategies in their workplace.

Buffalo State faculty and staff members will receive a 50 percent discount; discounts are also available for alumni and educators/nonprofits. Registration closes Friday, October 4.

5K Fridays: Couch to 5K Walk/Run Series

The Student Care and Support Team, under the dean of students, invites you to join 5K Fridays, a beginner-friendly Couch to 5K Walk/Run Series designed to help students build resilience through fitness. This structured program supports participants in going from a sedentary lifestyle to completing a 5K, fostering both physical and mental well-being.

  • Boost cardiovascular health, increase energy, and improve overall fitness.
  • Build confidence with a gradual progression and expert guidance.
  • Connect with fellow students and staff, fostering a sense of community and support.
  • Enjoy fun group runs, motivational talks, and progress tracking.

The program starts Friday, October 4. We will meet during Bengal Pause (12:15-1:30 p.m.) in Campbell Student Union 402A.

We are seeking collaborators and partners to enhance this initiative. If you are interested in contributing to this wellness-focused program, please contact Juliet Meade, assistant director of student care and support, for more information.

Fall 2024 Midterm Grading Window: October 7-25

The fall 2024 midterm grading window will open in Banner on Monday, October 7, at 9:00 a.m. and close Friday, October 25, at 9:00 p.m. In addition to a midterm grade, faculty members can indicate how regularly a student has attended a course by entering 0 (never attended), 1 (sporadic, unsatisfactory attendance), or 2 (consistent, satisfactory attendance) in the "Hours Attended" field. Midterm grade submissions for all registered students are useful, as these grades are helpful for campuswide academic intervention and retention efforts. 

Students can view their midterm grades in Banner, Degree Works, and the Bengal Success Portal as soon as they are posted. Advisors can obtain copies of midterm grading reports for their academic intervention use through their deans' offices.

Call for Collaborators: Wellness Wednesdays Initiative

The Student Care and Support Team, under the dean of students, is pleased to introduce "Wellness Wednesdays" a new initiative designed to inspire resilience and personal growth among students and faculty alike. Each month, we will explore thought-provoking books that promote self-improvement, paired with enriching discussions aimed at fostering both personal and professional development.

In addition to these discussions, we will host health and wellness events to further support student well-being. Complimentary snacks and beverages will be provided to encourage meaningful connections in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

We invite faculty, staff, and external partners interested in collaborating on this initiative to help us expand and enrich these offerings. Together, we can build a community that fosters strength, resilience, and holistic wellness.
