IDE 253 History of Interior Design and Architecture II. Prerequisite: IDE 205. Comprehensive survey of the major historical periods of architecture and interiors from the Industrial Revolution to the present.

PSC 307 International Conflict and Peaceful Resolution. Prerequisite: Junior or senior status, or instructor permission. Key theoretical traditions and research in international and intrastate conflict and conflict resolution through in-depth empirical analysis.

PSC 398 Political Science Teaching Program. Prerequisites: PSC 101, PSC 203, and PSC 204 with a minimum grade of B in each course; nine additional hours in political science; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; minimum GPA of 3.0 in political science. Examination of how political science courses are constructed and administered. Lecture development, exam construction, record keeping, and student engagement. Mentoring; preparing students for examinations and writing assignments. Students keep a journal of their activities and produce a written account of their experiences.

EDU 690 Master’s Curriculum and Assessment Project. Prerequisites: EDU 501 and 24 credits of CUR coursework. Review of the interaction of assessment and curriculum development in B–Grade 6 schools and current assessment-driven curriculum strategies. Culminates in a master’s curriculum project that integrates formative assessment used to drive and adjust learning activities.

Political, intellectual, and cultural significance of Christianity in world civilizations.

HIS 383 History of Christianity 1500–Present. Prerequisite: Junior or senior status. Developments in Christianity in the modern world from the collapse of the Byzantine Empire in the East and from the Protestant Reformation in the West through the twenty-first century. Challenges of Christianity with respect to the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, liberalism, nationalism, socialism, capitalism and the Industrial Revolution, secularism, consumerism, and globalization.

MUS 111 Accompanying for Pianists. Prerequisite: Music major. For piano students who wish to gain experience accompanying. Students are assigned a vocalist or instrumentalist and are required to attend their soloist’s weekly applied lesson as well as a coaching/master-class session with the piano instructor.

MUS 410 Recital Accompanist. Corequisites: MUS 110 and MUS 171–MUS 473 applied lessons. For students enrolled in the applied music lesson sequence and preparing for a recital. Students meet and rehearse privately with a staff piano accompanist. Emphasis on preparation for performance, solo and ensemble performance techniques, and musical interpretation.

MUS 601 Foundations of Music Education. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Historical, cultural, and philosophical foundations that have shaped and directed music education in the United States. Aesthetic, sociological, and psychological foundations of music education.

MUS 620 Advanced Topics in Music Theory. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Theoretical, aesthetic, and creative aspects of a selected group of musical works that span the fourteenth century to the present day. Students develop analytical tools and use creative thinking skills to analyze those works from a historically, sociologically, and technologically informed perspective.

MUS 630 Contemporary Issues in Music Education. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Historical and intellectual foundations of contemporary music education in the United States.  Curricular trends and areas of concern for music education in the United States.

PHI 334 Philosophy of Social Sciences. Prerequisite: CWP 102. The structure and nature of the social sciences. Epistemological and ontological implications of social-scientific theories. Analysis of socially constructed facts and institutions.  Rational-choice and decision-theory models of explanation.

PHI 335 Philosophy of Natural Sciences. Prerequisite: CWP 102. The structure and nature of science. Epistemological and ontological implications of scientific theories (e.g., quantum mechanics, evolutionary biology). The role of evidence, confirmation, falsification in science.

PSM 601 Project Management for Math and Science Professionals. Prerequisite: Graduate status. Current practices in project management as applied to math and science projects. Hands-on experience with the skills, tools, and techniques required in different phases of a project’s life cycle, including project selection, project planning, project staffing and organization, task scheduling, project-scope management, budgeting and progress reporting, risk management, quality management, project communications, and use of appropriate project-management software tools. Techniques for communicating and motivating teams throughout the project life cycle. Emphasis on team building and practicing project-management techniques through the use of science-based cases.

FLE 503 Foundations of Foreign and Second Language Education. Prerequisite: Graduate status or instructor permission. Survey of the historical, psychological, and social foundations of foreign and second language instruction.

FLE 515 Exploring English as a Second Language Grammar. Prerequisite: Graduate status or instructor permission. Exploration of second language grammar instruction and English grammar points known to challenge nonnative speakers of English.

FLE 601 English as a Second Language Linguistics. The knowledge and skills required to analyze the linguistic structures of the English language and the appropriate means to teach these structures to limited English proficient (LEP) students. Focus on syntactic, morphological, phonological, semantic, and discourse features of the English language.

FLE 602 Assessment in Foreign and Second Language Education. Prerequisite: Graduate status or instructor permission. Exploration of assessment protocols employed in foreign language and ESL education.

FLE 615 Multicultural Education in the Foreign Language Classroom. The conceptualization of multicultural education and the means by which future teachers can ensure that diverse cultures are respected and taught in the foreign language classroom.

FLE 689 Research Methods in Foreign Language Education. Prerequisite: Graduate status or instructor permission. Interpreting research in the field of foreign language education as well as acquiring the skills needed to engage in practical and ethical research in secondary educational settings.

FRE 402 Pedagogical French. Instruction in classroom use of French and exploration of research in French pedagogy. Prepares candidates for the required American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) advanced-low level proficiency interview in French.

FRE 501 Structures of Modern French. Provides in-service and preservice teachers with the knowledge and skills required to analyze the linguistic structures of the French language and the appropriate means to teach these structures to foreign language students; focus on syntactic, morphological, phonological, semantic, and discourse features of French. Taught in French.

FRE 516 Literacy for French Teachers. Development of literacy in French and proficiency in literacy-centered language teaching practices. Taught in French.

FRE 600 History of the French Language. History of the origins of modern French; specific emphasis on French’s evolution from vulgar Latin, social and political influences on language change, and standardization movements in the seventeenth century.

FRE 650 Moliere and the Sun King. Prerequisite: Graduate status. Analysis of the life and works of Moliere, the milieu for which he wrote, the conventions of seventeenth-century French drama, the influence of his times on his work, his legacy. Taught in French.
