Summer and Fall 2013 Registration

Banner Preview will begin on Monday, March 11. Students can view draft master schedules for summer 2013 and fall 2013 as well as any holds (if applicable) directly in Self-Service Banner (SSB).

The summer 2013 master schedule is now available online.

The fall 2013 master schedule will be available online starting Wednesday, March 20.

Summer and fall 2013 registration begins on Wednesday, April 3. All registration time tickets/time assignments begin at 6:00 a.m. on the assigned date and are then continuous.

United University Professions will host a UUP Sandy Relief Fundraiser on Monday, March 11, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the WNY NYSUT Building, 270 Essay Road, in Williamsville. Help our sisters and brothers downstate who have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Join us for food, drink, and fun. Cannot attend? You can donate by writing a check made out to NYSUT Disaster Relief and dropping it off at the UUP Buffalo State Chapter Office, Classroom Builidng A104, ext. 5732. Suggested donation $25.

Students are invited to weekly “fireside chats” with Dean of Students Charles Kenyon and featured guests on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Fireside Lounge (third floor). The Dean's Fireside Chat is an opportunity to discuss the theme of the day or to consider any issues, concerns, or topics students wish to address.

Join us on March 7 for a conversation with Anthony Bannon, director of the Burchfield Penny Art Center. Refreshments will be provided.

Tell Students: 'Meet the Professionals' Event for PR and Advertising Students

Buffalo State's chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will host a "Meet the Professionals" panel discussion featuring six local PR and advertising professionals on Thursday, March 7. The free event will be held in Bulger Communication Center South 2 (second floor) starting with refreshments at 6:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion at 7:00 p.m. and speed networking at 8:00 p.m. Deborah Silverman, associate professor of communication and PRSSA faculty adviser, will serve as moderator for the program. All students interested in public relations or advertising careers are invited to attend.

Commencement Registration Now Open

To all faculty, staff, and administrators: Online registration for Commencement marchers and volunteer ushers is now open. Members of the Class of 2013 eagerly anticipate celebrating their graduation at the 141st Commencement on Saturday, May 18, in the Sports Arena, and your participation will make it memorable for our graduates and their families. Please celebrate with our graduates by marching in the processional or serving as a volunteer usher to help with graduate lineup or greet and guide guests.

Three ceremonies celebrate December 2012 graduates, January 2013 graduates, and May and August potential degree candidates. Bachelor's are celebrated at both the 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. ceremonies. Master's and C.A.S. graduates are celebrated at the 6:00 p.m. A festive reception follows each ceremony where graduates, their guests, and faculty and staff members gather to continue the celebration.

'Spread the Word to End the Word' Campaign

Best Buddies will host a "Spread the Word to End the Word" campaign on March 5, 6, and 7 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union. Visitors will be encouraged to sign a banner as part of a personal pledge not to use the "R" word, and there will be a DJ, popcorn, and prizes. A night of inclusion on March 7 at 7:00 p.m. will feature a musical performance by a talented student with disabilities and a disability simulation, where participants can try out what it feels like to have a disability. Desktop Delivery for Office Supplies Starting Soon

Procurement Services is happy to announce that Office Max will begin desktop delivery and pickup service starting March 18, by popular request. Orders will be delivered directly to and returns will be picked up directly from individual departments. This will mean faster delivery times and more convenient returns when returns are necessary.

Nothing else has changed. Orders will be placed and approved as before. Returns, exchanges, etc., will still be arranged through Procurement Services. The ordering department will be responsible for preparing returns (packaging, labeling, etc.), and the Office Max driver will pick up directly from the department.

An e-mail will be sent to all registered Office Max users with detailed instructions for placing orders and returns.

Student Research Programs: Important Deadlines

The deadlines for two programs that support student research are approaching. Only applications completed by the deadlines can be considered.

The 15th annual Student Research and Creativity Celebration (SRCC) is open to both undergraduates and graduate students. Access to the online application will remain open for students until midnight Tuesday, March 19. Faculty mentors have until midnight Thursday, March 21, to review, edit, and approve application(s) submitted by their student(s). SRCC applications are completed online: visit www.buffalostate.edu/undergraduateresearch/x503.xml or scan the QR code on the event posters.

The Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship Program is open to undergraduates with a graduation date of December 2013 or later. Applications are completed entirely online (both the student and mentor portions). The deadline for students to complete their part of the application and forward it to their faculty mentors is midnight Tuesday, April 2. Mentors have until midnight Thursday, April 4, to complete and submit the full application. A detailed description for conducting the research, scholarly, or creative activity is necessary and prepared by the student. Faculty mentors are required to provide a detailed mentoring plan.
