Professional Development Webinar: Efficient and Effective Feedback in the Online Classroom

Posted:

This webinar will introduce you to a set of tools and practices designed to help you create better feedback for your online students in far less time. Topics covered in this one-hour presentation include

  • using emergent technologies to streamline and even automate elements of feedback;
  • enhancing feedback's impact through the use of both one-to-one and one-to-many methods;
  • employing priority-based time-management strategies;
  • taking advantage of "feedforward" techniques to decrease the need for summative feedback;
  • creating banks of common feedback statements that can be drawn on for future assessments.

Taken together, these innovative approaches will help you pare your workload, rebalance your priorities, and maintain a positive environment for teaching and learning. Presented by B. Jean Mandernach, Ph.D., director of the Center for Innovation in Research and Teaching at Grand Canyon University. Join us on Wednesday, July 24, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Professional Development Center, E. H. Butler Library 181B.

Do You Want to Learn How to Eat Healthier?

Posted:

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will host a Weight Watchers At-Work information session on Thursday, June 20, and Thursday, June 27, at noon in E. H. Butler Library 208. The program is open to the campus community. Please attend one of the meetings for more information.

The benefits of the At-Work program:

  • Flexibility. When you sign up for the monthly pass, you’ll get access to weekly At-Work meetings and unlimited local meetings plus eTools, an Internet weight-loss companion.
  • Convenience. Weight Watchers brings the meetings right to campus, so even the busiest person can still attend.
  • Daily motivation. Since a majority of our week is most likely spent at work or school, attending Weight Watchers on campus creates a great network for ongoing support and motivation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Gina Game, campus coordinator.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, June 14, 2013, in honor of three New Yorkers who died in Zarghun Shahr, Afghanistan, on June 8.

The two soldiers were assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 10th Mountain Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Drum.

"I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the deaths of these three men who gave their lives for our country," Governor Cuomo said." We extend our condolences to their friends, families, and fellow soldiers. We will remember them and honor their service."

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state's service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
