Notice of New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options

Posted:

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law in March 2010. One of the ACA requirements is for employers to inform their employees of the availability of coverage through the health insurance marketplace. The ACA-required notice that provides basic information about the new health insurance marketplace coverage options is available at www.buffalostate.edu/offices/hr/him_coverage.pdf

Because the State of New York offers a significant contribution toward the monthly premium and provides a comprehensive health plan that meets the "minimum value standard" set by the Affordable Care Act, the majority of employees in a benefits-eligible position* would not qualify for the tax credit offered through the health insurance marketplace; however, you may be eligible for a tax credit that lowers your monthly premium, or a reduction in cost-sharing, if you are not in a benefits-eligible position.

Additional information about the health insurance marketplace is available at www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov.

This is an ACA-required notice. No action is necessary if you are enrolled in the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP).

*All full-time employees with an appointment of three months or more; part-time faculty teaching two or more courses per semester; part-time professional employees with an annualized salary of at least $13,780; part-time classified employees with an appointment of .50 FTE or more.
