What Should I Do If State Property Is Stolen?

Posted:

If you suspect that an asset or piece of equipment has been stolen, contact University Police (UPD) at ext. 6333 immediately. UPD will send an investigator who will obtain all the necessary data on the missing property and the circumstances surrounding its disappearance. The investigator will need to know the asset number, description, manufacturer, model, serial number, and cost. If the asset is recorded on inventory, the data should be readily available. A copy of the investigator’s report will be sent to Business Services, which will then retire the asset from the department inventory. If you file a theft report with an off-campus police department, you must also file a separate report with UPD.

Assets transported back and forth on a continual basis (such as laptop computers) must also be identified on a Loan of College Property form. This form can be retrieved from the Campus Services website.

In select circumstances, property owned by Buffalo State can be included ("traded in") as part of a procurement transaction to acquire a new or replacement piece of property.

The Property Trade-In Form should be used to secure the appropriate campus approvals for the disposition of the property to be traded in.

"Property" is defined as vehicles, boats, furniture, or equipment where a trade-in option is available. The Property Trade-In Form is available on the Business Services website.

Please call Business Services at ext. 6835 with questions. Thank you.
