Tell Students: College Judicial Board Is Seeking Applicants

The Judicial Affairs Office is seeking student applicants to serve on the College Judicial Board. Students must have one completed semester with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students who are interested in serving on the College Judicial Board must complete an application and return it to the Judicial Affairs Office, Campbell Student Union 105, by Friday September 7. The application can be found on the Judicial Affairs website, or by contacting Joshua Rich. Please visit or call our office, ext. 3051, with any questions.

Professional Development: General Education Essentials

Join your colleagues for a discussion of "General Education Essentials" on Friday, September 7. Hear an overview of Paul Hanstedt's Pedagogical Institute session on integrating critical thinking into general education classes. Share your plans, questions, and challenges on this topic. Learn about the formation of a General Education Faculty Interest Group that will continue to meet throughout the year. All General Education Faculty Interest Group members will receive a copy of Hanstedt's book, General Education Essentials.

Bagels and coffee will be available at 8:15 a.m., and the discussion will be held from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the Professional Development Center, E. H. Butler Library 181B.

Tell Students: Get Involved with Their Campus Museum

The Burchfield Penney Art Center's student organization for Buffalo State students will have its first meeting this Friday, August 31, at 3:00 p.m. at the museum.

The purpose of the Burchfield Penney Art Center (BPAC) Street Team is to bring the Burchfield Penney and Buffalo State campus together as one. Our mission is to provide all students with an opportunity to become involved with volunteering, exhibitions, and events as well as to explore the art of Western New York. The group holds an event each semester and goes on several field trips to other museums and sites in Buffalo.

The BPAC Street Team meets every Friday at 3:00 p.m. during the academic year in the museum's second floor conference room. Students of all majors are welcome.

CSEA Local 640 Labor Day Observance Celebration

Please join your sisters and brothers of CSEA Local 640 for a special early observance of Labor Day as we recognize the American worker on Thursday, August 30, from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. at the Clinton Center. Guest speakers will include Alex Blair, labor historian and adjunct instructor in the History and Social Studies Education Department at Buffalo State. Please assemble outside near the "Arch de Boot" sculpture.

Join the Buffalo State Heart Walk Team

Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff members will participate in the Buffalo Niagara Heart Walk on Saturday, September 8, at Coca-Cola Field. The Heart Walk is a 5K noncompetitive event that features family fun activities. This year, the Heart Walk will feature Dennis George the Quizmaster, cooking demonstrations, a kids zone, and an after-event party featuring live music. Please sign up for the Buffalo State Team and begin your fundraising today. 

Registration will begin inside the concourse at Coca-Cola Field at 8:00 a.m. and will continue until the walk begins at 10:00. Please consider joining the team to support the American Heart Association.

Athletes and Scholarships

If your department is granting scholarships, please be aware that, per NCAA Division III regulations, athletics ability or participation in athletics cannot be taken into account in the awarding of scholarships to our students. This does not mean that an athlete cannot receive a scholarship, but rather that their athletic endeavors cannot be used or considered in the selection criteria. Questions of compliance should be directed to Connie Cooke, director of the Financial Aid Office.

Sessions are on Saturdays from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. There are five sessions and one parent conference. Parents receive a diagnostic report with instructional recommendations for home and school.
