BSSC Film Series: 'The Journey of Sacagawea'

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, the Buffalo State Sustainability Council will show the film The Journey of Sacagawea at noon on Tuesday, November 27, in E. H. Butler Library 318. This one-hour documentary explores the life and legend of Sacagawea as told through the rich oral history of the Shoshoni, Hidatsa, and Nez Perce tribes, as well as historical accounts from the journals of Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and others on the Corps of Discovery. Travel in the footsteps of Sacagawea as the film takes you through the wilds of the American frontier. For further information, contact bssc@buffalostate.edu.

West Side Roundtables: Voices of Entrepreneurship

The Buffalo State Community Academic Center (CAC) will host a West Side Roundtable Series for the Year of the City on Wednesday, November 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the CAC, 214 Grant Street, just south of Lafayette Avenue. The second in the series, "Voices of Entrepreneurship," will include local business owners who will share the history of their business and discuss their successes and challenges.

Winterim Workshops Needed

The new year is just around the corner. That means it's almost time for another Winterim. Currently, there are only six workshops scheduled. Don't you have a hobby or skill you would like to share with your colleagues? It can be something serious and educational, or something a little fun and frivolous. Don't be shy; any ideas you have will be considered for Winterim 2013.

You can see the current list of workshops on the Winterim website. Winterim will run from Monday, January 7, through Friday, January 18.

Second Annual Health and Wellness Intradepartment Student Creativity Presentation

The second annual Health and Wellness Intradepartment Student Creativity Presentation will be held on Tuesday, November 27, and Thursday, November 29, during Bengal Pause (12:15 to 1:30 p.m.) in the lobby of Campus West A100 (Buckham Campus School). Senior and junior students from HEW 411W, Critical Issues in Health and Wellness, will present their semester-long projects, all of which focus on Healthy People 2020 and improving the health of our nation.

Please accept this open invitation to our free presentation. Visit and speak to our future health educators regarding their work and their passion for change. Our students will be more than willing to share their research journey with you! This presentation is funded in part by the Grant Allocation Committee.

New York State Employee Health Benefits Fair

Representatives from Community Blue, Independent Health, and the Empire Plan will be on campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 6, in E. H. Butler Library 210 to answer questions about current health insurance plans and anticipated changes in coverage for 2013.

Staff members from the Employee Benefits Office also will be present to assist employees in making changes to health insurance coverage. Attendees may have their blood pressure checked; learn about the benefits of and sample massage therapy; learn how to maximize dental and vision care benefits from the UUP Benefit Trust Fund; get ideas on how to balance work, home, and life from NYS Balance; obtain information about the Employee Assistance Program and meet EAP coordinators; and consult with Fitness Center staff members on how to become stronger and healthier. Call the Human Resource Management Office at ext. 4821 if you have any questions.
