Free Practice Exams for Students

Practice makes perfect! Tell your students considering graduate school to take a free practice entrance exam with KAPLAN Test Prep (GRE, LSAT, MCAT, and GMAT). Preregistration is required. To sign up or for more information, contact the Career Development Center at ext. 5811 or stop by Cleveland Hall 306.

Tests will take place on Wednesday, February 23, at 6:00 p.m. in Rockwell Hall. Test takers will be notified of the exact room location of their exam once they sign up.

Applications for Provost's Incentive Grants Now Being Accepted

Applications are now being accepted for the academic year 2010–2011 Provost’s Incentive Grants.

Awards of up to $1,500 are available to tenured and tenure-track faculty members to assist with travel costs, purchase of materials, conference fees, and other support for scholarly, research, and creative activities.

A selection committee of representatives from the faculties of the four schools will review all proposals, based on the criteria of benefit to the faculty member’s professional development and teaching, and service to the academic department.

Applications must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24. Research and creative activities should be done from March 15, 2011, to March 15, 2012.

Selection criteria and application instructions can be obtained from the Academic Affairs Office, Cleveland Hall 519, or viewed online at  www.buffalostate.edu/professionaldevelopment (under “faculty development,” then “funding options”). For questions, please call Janet Ramsey, ext. 4554.

Tell Students: Information Session on Study Abroad

Next Tuesday, February 8, at 12:15 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center South 2, students can learn about the benefits of study abroad and the more than 400 overseas programs in 60 countries sponsored by the State University of New York.

They will find out how to select a program, how to determine the best time to go, how course work applies to requirements at Buffalo State, the application process, cost, and how financial aid and scholarships can assist them in participating in one or more of these life-changing and career-enhancing experiences.

Taking the Step Up to Supervisor: A Practical Approach for Improved Productivity

Becoming a supervisor is your first step in the challenging and rewarding field of management. Because of your technical skills, attitude, and potential, you have earned a new level of responsibility. Now you must master different skills to help you to continue to grow and advance. Management is an art; however, the basic skills can be learned. In this session we will identify those skills and methods, and you can decide what works best for you. One of those skills involves understanding the Performance, Evaluation and Professional Development System (PEPDS).

Opportunity for a round table discussion to share thoughts, concerns, and best practices will be offered.
