New Rockwell Road Crosswalk to Be Installed

Posted:

Installation work will begin today on a high-visibility concrete crosswalk on Rockwell Road, west of the Burchfield Penney Art Center entrance. Orange construction cones will be placed to route traffic around the work area. This project will be done in two phases and is expected to last approximately two weeks. Drivers are asked to use caution when approaching this area.

Gmail to Be Implemented as the New Student E-mail Platform

We are pleased to announce that Buffalo State student e-mail will be moving to Gmail on Wednesday, October 12. This change will also give students access to a number of Google Apps services, such as Google Docs and Google Calendar. When we make the transition to Gmail, the students’ Buffalo State e-mail addresses will remain the same. 

We have kicked off our communication with students and will post updates at www.buffalostate.edu/cts/gmailnotice.xml as they become available. Please direct your students to this site if they have any questions about the move to Gmail. They can also send questions to googleapps@buffalostate.edu.

Topics include finding a graduate program, the application process, what to expect in graduate-level classes, coping strategies, and potential pitfalls.

Professional Development: Study Tour to Puerto Rico - A Nontraditional Way of Learning

Are you or your students interested in a study tour to Puerto Rico? Join us on Wednesday, September 21, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Professional Development Center (E. H. Butler Library 181B) for an overview of the study tour to Puerto Rico. Learn about its development as a 6-credit study-abroad course. Experience a visual tour of the trip phase of the program. Get an overview of an 11-year research study of the program. Among the goals of this presentation are to establish the relevance of this type of initiative toward narrowing the gap of participants by ethnicity in study-abroad programs and to encourage academic advisers, faculty, and staff in engaging prospective students, including themselves, in similar opportunities. Presented by Evelyn Rosario. A light lunch will be provided.

SUNY B-140W Employee Tuition Assistance Program

The deadline to submit applications for the SUNY B-140W Tuition Assistance Program for the fall 2011 semester is Friday, September 30.

Staff members may apply for tuition assistance after six months of service; faculty members may apply after one semester of service. The following employees are eligible:

  • Full-time Buffalo State faculty and professional or classified employees.
     
  • Part-time and/or temporary Buffalo State faculty and professional or classified employees who are employed at least half time (faculty must teach at least two courses in the semester).
     
  • Full-time Research Foundation employees, provided they work on the Buffalo State campus.

Program funds may be used for courses at SUNY campuses only. Eligible employees may apply for a 50 percent waiver of SUNY tuition for up to two courses per semester, to a maximum of 15 credit hours per academic year.  Tuition assistance is limited to regular in-state undergraduate or graduate tuition rates. The level of support may be adjusted when necessary if funding is not adequate to cover applications received. Contact Human Resource Management, ext. 4821, for applications and program guidelines.
