Annual Reports 2009-2010

Annual report forms are posted on the Web at www.buffalostate.edu/offices/hr/ under "Featured Links." The timetable for submission of annual reports for 2009-2010 follows:

June 11, 2010: Individual reports from faculty, librarians, and professional staff submitted to director or department chair.

July 7, 2010: Department reports to dean, associate vice president or to vice president.

July 21, 2010: All reports (deans, associate vice presidents, vice presidents) to provost (can be submitted electronically to Carolyn Martino.

Master Plan Alternatives Available for Viewing and Comment

Members of the campus community are invited to view and comment on different approaches for how the Buffalo State campus might grow and change over the next decade and beyond.

Three Facilities Master Plan alternatives have been developed by campus planners. We invite you to view the concept alternatives at www.buffalostate.edu/financeandmanagement/x579.xml and provide feedback to VPFM@buffalostate.edu by May 21, 2010.

A final plan will be presented in fall 2010.

Survey On the Use of Banner in Advisement Policy Enforcement

A survey is available to all campus constituents through Friday, April 30. It is designed to gather information regarding (a.) experience and satisfaction in use/non-use of the Advisement PIN to enforce advisement of target groups, and (b.) opinions as to whether or not the option for academic departments to use the PIN for target groups should remain voluntary. The survey is available to all campus members, including students, on the Banner Web site.

Next week, two open forums will be held on the same topic. A report summarizing the results of the survey will be shared at these forums, and PIN usage discussed. The forums will both take place in Cleveland Hall 205 on Tuesday, May 4, Bengal Pause (12:15-1:30 p.m.) and Wednesday, May 5, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Please participate in this process. The College Senate and ISAS (Information Services and Systems) are co-sponsoring the survey and the open forums.

Extended Evening Hours Scheduled for Science and Mathematics Complex Pile Driving

In order to maintain the Science and Mathematics Complex project schedule, contractors plan to extend pile driving hours starting today, Thursday, April 29, through Thursday, May 6. Instead of ending at 6:00 p.m., pile driving activity may go as late as 8:00 p.m. The start time of 9:00 a.m. will not be changed. We appreciate your understanding as this critical project moves forward. Questions about construction projects may be e-mailed to VPFM@Buffalostate.edu.

College Senate Elections Results

The chair of the College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee has announced the at-large and University Faculty elections results. Joe Marren was elected as University Faculty Senator, with Bill Raffel as alternate. For our College Senate, Howard Reid and Ted Schmidt will serve three-year at-large terms, with James Sobol selected to fill a one-year vacancy. Thank you to everyone who participated in the election process, and best wishes to our new representatives!

Facilities Master Plan Process Continues with Opportunities for Campus Input

Members of the campus community are invited to view and comment on different approaches for how the Buffalo State campus might grow and change over the next decade and beyond.

The suggested approaches are part of a Facilities Master Plan process involving interviews, site visits, building assessments and analyses of the college’s future space needs. Planning consultants, led by Flynn Battaglia Architects, have developed three concept alternatives for how the campus might evolve.

Two presentations are planned:

On April 28, the three concept alternatives will be presented at an informational meeting from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 418. Please respond to powellja@buffalostate.edu if you plan to attend.

On April 29, a drop-in session, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Campbell Student Union, will provide an opportunity for the campus community to view and comment on the concept alternatives. Input can be given via comment forms provided during the drop-in session or e-mailed to VPFM@buffalostate.edu.

A final Facilities Master Plan will be created and presented in the fall.

SUNY Chancellor, WNY Campuses Launch Strategic Plan Nancy Zimpher

As part of a nine-city rollout, State University of New York Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will be in Buffalo on April 28 to publicly launch SUNY’s new strategic plan.

Aimed at enhancing the vitality and quality of life at SUNY campuses and introducing a new way forward for aligning SUNY’s purpose with New York State’s economic future, the strategic plan can be found on the SUNY Web site.

Buffalo State College with Erie County Community College, SUNY Fredonia, Jamestown Community College, Niagara County Community College, and the University at Buffalo are participating in the event, which will be held at HealthNow New York Inc., 257 W. Genesee Street in Buffalo. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for a breakfast reception, followed by presentations from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. All are invited.

Academic Plan: Feedback Wanted

The progress report on the development of the current plan and the plan itself are available on the Academic Affairs Web site. Student Union Quad Construction Resumes this Week

Work on the ongoing Student Union Quad construction project will resume this week. The northeast corner of the Campbell Student Union will be fenced, as well as an area in central part of the quad. Also, the sidewalk north of Butler Library that leads from the quad to lot U, will be closed until the project is completed. The fencing layout is available at http://www.buffalostate.edu/financeandmanagement/documents/zones.pdf.
