The following have been received in the College Senate Office and forwarded to the College Senate Curriculum Committee for fall 2021 review:

New Courses:
BIO 621 Terrestrial Ecosystem Ecology. Prerequisite: Undergraduate course in ecology. Exploration of the ecosystem concept in ecology. Interactions among organisms and their environment as an integrated system. Factors regulating pools and fluxes of materials and energy through terrestrial ecological systems. Structure and functional relationships, spatial and temporal patterns in ecosystem processes, and the legacy of response to past events. Offered occasionally, beginning fall 2022.

COM 316 Social Media in the Communication Professions. Prerequisites: COM 210 with minimum grade of C and COM 215 with minimum grade of C. Overview of social media usage within and on behalf of organizations. Introduction to social media history; ethical, legal, and privacy principles; functions, metrics, and practical application of social media strategies; and tactics in the communication professions. Offered every semester, beginning spring 2023.

Course Revision:
PSY 421 Physiological Psychology. Prerequisites: PSY 101 with a minimum grade of C and PSY 333. Focus on the brain, nervous system, endocrine and immune system, and their relationship to animal and human behavior. Includes psychosurgery, physiological basis of language, intelligence, emotion, motivation, motivated behaviors, learning, sexuality, abnormal behavior, perception, and motor behavior. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2022.

New Courses:
SPA 622 Legal Translation. Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate certificate program in Spanish-English translation or instructor permission. Introduction to translating legal texts and documents. Students learn to manage terminology, style, and register of legal documents. Topics include civil and criminal law, business correspondence, and documents related to contracts. Focus on concepts, strategies, and skills necessary to produce a professional translation. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2023.

SPA 623 Translation Technologies and Project Management. Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate certificate program in Spanish-English translation or instructor permission. Taught in Spanish and English. Topics include translation memory, machine translation, website localization, terminology management, human resources, file formatting, project planning, workflow, and delivery. Exploration of concepts, strategies, and skills necessary to utilize translation technologies and manage a translation project. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2022.

Course Revisions:
ENG 370 Foundations of Language. Prerequisite: CWP 102. The structure of language with emphasis on English speech and writing; language families and their relationships; language change; significance of regional and social dialects. Offered every semester, beginning spring 2023. 

SWK 220 Introduction to Social Work. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Introduction to generalist social work practice in the United States, social work values, roles, and settings of practice. Contemporary issues facing social workers with emphasis on social work practice with vulnerable populations. Offered every semester, beginning fall 2022.

SWK 422 Assessment and Engagement. Prerequisites: Social work major; BIO 101, CWP 102, any PSY course, and any SOC course; minimum GPA of 2.5 in the social work major and overall. Focus on the practice behaviors, skills, and ethics used in social work. Emphasis on the engagement and assessment phases of generalist social work practice. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2022.

SWK 497 Integrative Seminar II. Prerequisites: Social work major; SWK 419, SWK 493, and SWK 496; minimum GPA of 2.5 in the social work major and overall. Integration of coursework and the demonstration of social work practice behaviors and skills with a focus on intervention, termination, and evaluation. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2023.

Course Revision with Intellectual Foundations Infusion (INF):
SWK 308 Human Behavior and the Social Environment II (CT, IM, W). Prerequisites: Social work major; BIO 101, CWP 102, any PSY course, and any SOC course; minimum GPA of 2.5 in the social work major and overall. Focus on understanding and applying the primary theoretical frameworks used in the field of social work to engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate work with diverse populations. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2022.

The Provost’s Office has received a request for program deactivation of the M.A. in museum studies and the advanced certificate in museum studies from the School of Arts and Sciences. According to DOPS IV: 01:01, the request for deactivation and the recommendation to remove the programs from the 2022–2023 catalog and to no longer accept students into the programs starting January 1, 2022, has been forwarded to the College Senate for next actions.
