The following have been received in the College Senate Office and forwarded to the College Senate Curriculum Committee for spring 2020 review:

New Courses:
ATS 322 Art Therapy Methods and Materials. Prerequisite: ATS 320. Prerequisite for ATS minors: ATS 320 and one visual art course, or instructor permission. Development of a practical understanding of utilizing art media for therapeutic purposes. Exploration of methods used by professional art therapists with varied client populations and settings. Art experiential work, didactic material, and case examples highlight the properties and effects of visual art media as these relate to the therapy goals of individuals and groups. Offered every semester, beginning spring 2021.

COM 447 Communication Data Analytics. Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing. Communication research, software application, and legal and ethical exploration of the use of social media data and open digital data in journalism, media management, marketing, public relations, and advertising. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2021.

COM 547 Data Analytics for Strategic Communication. Prerequisite. Graduate standing. Communication research and software application–based investigation of data analytics in strategic communication, including its role in marketing, the media, public relations and advertising, and audience targeting, and its legal and ethical implications. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2020.

MUS 608 Graduate Jazz Styles and Analysis. Prerequisite: Admission to the master of music in music education program. Study and analysis of jazz music from 1900 to 1960. With an emphasis on listening, transcribing, analyzing, performing, improvising, and composing, students develop a comprehensive understanding of jazz standard repertoire and performance practice. Offered occasionally, beginning fall 2020.

MUS 645 Including Students with Autism in Music Classrooms and Ensembles. Prerequisite: Admission to the master of music in music education program. Foundation of knowledge related to successfully including students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in music classrooms and ensembles. Includes discussion of strategies that facilitate participation, music skill development, and student enjoyment. Class format includes reading, research, and collaborative lessons designs. Addresses similarities with typical peers as well as challenges for students with ASD related to sensory, behavior, and social challenges that can impede positive inclusion experiences. Offered occasionally, beginning fall 2020.

Course Revision:
EXE 521 Curricular and Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities. Prerequisite: EXE 500; Corequisite: EXE 519. Preparation of special education teacher candidates to identify and adapt developmentally appropriate curricular and instructional strategies in key content areas (e.g., reading) to address individualized needs of students with high incidence disabilities. Offered every semester, beginning spring 2021.

Reminder: Proposal Submission Process - Unique Course Prefixes Required

Please remember that any new or revised course proposal prefix must not be reused from previous years or historical use. Any proposal submitted with a previously used prefix will not be processed for review by the College Senate Curriculum Committee. Curricular authors and departments must verify this detail before submitting a proposal to the associate dean. The College Senate Office will contact the respective associate dean to make corrections. Errors will delay the reviewing process. A full listing of all courses, current and historical, is available; please contact the College Senate Office to request a copy.

Spring 2020 Curricular Submission Deadline: April 10

The deadline to submit curricular proposals to the College Senate Curriculum Committee for spring 2020 review is Friday, April 10. Proposals received after April 10 will be reviewed in fall 2020.
    
If your proposal was approved or approved pending revisions (APR) from fall 2019 or spring 2020, please act on that proposal, as all curricular processes continue throughout the spring and summer breaks.

New templates for new and revised program submissions are available on the Curriculum Committee website. Curricular authors, departments, and schools are advised to use the new templates when submitting new and revised programs to the committee for review. Old templates will no longer be accepted.

2020 Curricular Submission Templates

Curricular authors must use the newly revised proposal submission templates, which can be found on the Curriculum Committee website. Any proposal submitted using the old template format will not be accepted unless the Curriculum Committee chair has made other arrangements with the department chair and associate dean. Old templates will not be accepted.

Please ensure that course proposals with the same three-letter course prefix and different course numbers have unique titles regardless of the graduate or undergraduate level. All courses must have different names, and all documents must match the information being entered in Kiss Flow. For example, CSC 100 Introduction to the Curriculum Process and CSC 600 Introduction to the Curriculum Process would not be permissible; one of the titles must be changed to distinguish it from the other.

Please use the CSCC website for all your curricular needs and information. Updated proposal templates and all the latest CSCC information are posted there.

The following have been received in the College Senate Office and forwarded to the College Senate Curriculum Committee for spring 2020 review:

New Courses:
CIS 388 Service Learning in Computing. Prerequisite: CIS 151 or instructor permission. Participation in organized service-learning activities, offering coding/programming workshops for middle and high school students to address community needs, while enhancing academic knowledge and skills and fostering civic responsibility. Offered every semester, beginning fall 2020.

SLP 301 Advanced Sign Language. Prerequisites: SLP 101 and SLP 102. Final course in the ASL sequence designed to promote advanced competence in ASL conversational skills to a level that is recommended for work in schools and public agencies that serve the deaf and hard-of-hearing population. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2020.

Course Revision:
NFS 689 Methods of Nutrition Research. Prerequisites: Graduate standing, undergraduate coursework in nutrition research and medical nutrition therapy, and instructor permission. Advanced knowledge of nutrition research design; planning, collection, treatment, and interpretation of research data; application of nutrition research methods and statistical analysis as related to the development of a nutrition research proposal. Students develop and present to the advisory committee a proposal for individual research projects. Offered summer and fall semesters, beginning fall 2020.

SLP 205 Introduction to Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Introduction to the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. Discussion of the roles, responsibilities, and potential employment settings for each profession. Review of communication and writing competencies needed for professional success. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2020.

SLP 206 Building Social Connections: Communication, Language, and Conversation. Introduction to the constructs of communication, language, and conversation. Impact of communication, language, and conversational skills in daily life. Discussion of the development of communication, language, and conversation of children birth to 5 years old. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2021.
