Summer Watercolor Salons at the Center

The International Center for Watercolor at the Burchfield Penney is dedicated to the study, advancement, and celebration of the watercolor medium. Join us in the center's studio classroom for our Watercolor Salon Series on select Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. throughout the summer. Each salon will feature a different watercolorist, inspiring you and your fellow painters to explore new techniques and approaches to the medium. Bring your own paints or borrow a set.

$10 for members; $20 for not-yet members.
Drop-in; no registration required.
All levels of painters welcome.

Buffalo State Dining Is Cooking Out Every Friday during the Summer

Every Friday during the summer, Buffalo State Dining is paying it forward with a specialty discount lunch featuring a cookout in the Campbell Student Union Quad from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will replace the normally featured hot entrée selection at Spot Coffee in the Campbell Student Union Food Court.

Select one entrée, two sides, and a fountain beverage from the cookout menu for only $5. This Friday's menu includes Cornell-style chicken, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, garden burgers, grilled corn on the cob, orzo pasta salad, potato salad, watermelon, and garden salad.

Purchase your cookout lunch ticket at Spot Coffee and redeem it for food in the quad. Credit, cash, Bengal Bucks, and Dining Dollars are accepted. Faculty and staff members, save 10 percent on your purchase when you use your Bengal Bucks.

Call for Participation: Butler Library Faculty-Staff Publication Case Fall 2014

In preparation for the fall semester, E. H. Butler Library would like to highlight our faculty and staff members as innovators. We invite you to submit your publications or creative works for display in the faculty-staff scholarly exhibits case in our lower lobby. Additionally we would like to hold a reception to highlight the publications. Faculty and staff members with recent publications who would like to be included should complete the Faculty-Staff Library Exhibit application. Please encourage your colleagues to participate. We want to feature your accomplishments!

Online and Classroom Training: Workplace Violence Prevention

Annual training in workplace violence prevention is mandated for all public employees under New York State Labor Law Section 27-b. All faculty and staff members will now be able to access the online Workplace Violence Prevention Training on Blackboard. Instructions are available on the Human Resource Management website (PDF).

For those who prefer to attend classroom training, sessions have been scheduled on Thursday, June 19; Thursday, July 17; and Thursday, August 21. All sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. in Cleveland Hall 418. Employees may register for classroom sessions online or by phone at ext. 4822.

Topics covered in online and classroom sessions include recognizing warning signs for potential violence, assessing risk in various work settings, what to do and not to do if presented with a violent situation, and campus resources available to prevent violence.

June 12 | Amy Greenan: Expressive Text
Look at letters and play with color in a new way. Create expressive text-based artwork using gouache or other water-based media (and maybe some underdrawing). Be prepared to embrace so-called mistakes and see how they can energize your work in a limited color palette with selective layering.

First-Year Convocation 2014 will be held on Wednesday, August 20, at 9:00 a.m. in the Sports Arena. This event requires the enthusiastic participation of our campus community to succeed. All departments and offices are encouraged to allow their staff members to support this event as a work assignment for that morning by allowing personnel to march, volunteer, or simply attend the event as an audience member. Faculty and staff members are urged to process in regalia to demonstrate Buffalo State's commitment to incoming students.
