Employee Tuition Assistance Program SUNY B-140W Applications Due Today

Today is the last day to submit applications for the SUNY B-140W Tuition Assistance Program for the fall 2014 semester.

Staff members may apply for tuition assistance after six months of service; faculty members may apply after one semester of service. The following employees are eligible:

  • Full-time Buffalo State faculty and professional or classified employees.
  • Part-time or temporary Buffalo State faculty and professional or classified employees who are employed at least half time (faculty must teach at least two courses in the semester).
  • Full-time Research Foundation employees provided they work on the Buffalo State campus.

Program funds may be used for courses at SUNY campuses only. Eligible employees may apply for a 50 percent waiver of SUNY tuition for up to two courses per semester, to a maximum of 15 credit hours per academic year. Tuition assistance is limited to regular in-state undergraduate or graduate tuition rates. The level of support may be adjusted when necessary if funding is not adequate to cover applications received.

After submitting an application, employees who decide to drop a class or find that it has been covered by another source are asked to please notify Human Resource Management immediately to update their applications.

Flu vaccines will be available for faculty and staff members tomorrow, October 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Butler Library 210.

No appointment is necessary. The vaccine will be available in shot or mist form. The following health insurance plans will be accepted: Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY, Independent Health, Blue Choice, and Medicare Part B. Employees must present a valid health insurance ID card. Employees without a participating insurance plan will be charged $30 for the flu shot or $40 for the flu mist.

Participation and acceptance of any insurance is not a guarantee of benefits or payment in full. Co-payments or a deductible may apply. Please call your insurance provider's member services department with questions regarding coverage.

Empire Plan enrollees may obtain their flu shot from their doctor’s office (participating provider) for their usual co-pay should they wish to do so.

Please call Employee Benefits at ext. 4821 or the member services department of your insurance company with questions regarding your health insurance coverage. The phone number should be on your insurance card.

Tell Students: Flu Vaccine Clinic September 9

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all students, especially those who have a chronic medical condition such as asthma or diabetes or who are currently on prednisone, should receive a flu shot.

A flu vaccine clinic will be held on Tuesday, September 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union. Insurance companies that might cover the vaccine at this clinic include Independent Health, Cigna, Aetna, CVS/Caremark, Merck/Medco, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare Parts B and D, and Fidelis.

Students must present a valid health insurance card. Others must pay the cost of $31.99 by cash or check.

The flu clinic is arranged through the Weigel Health Center. Please call Debbie Sarratori, assistant director of medical administration, at ext. 6711 with questions.
