Professional Development Workshop: Crucial Skills for Confronting the Workplace Bully - February 18

Are you left out of social gatherings with colleagues? Have you been interrupted or intimidated by your supervisor or colleagues, or been sabotaged or made to look foolish?

A VitalSmarts webinar, "Crucial Skills for Confronting the Workplace Bully," will be held on Wednesday, February 18, at 11:00 a.m. in the Professional Development Center, Butler Library 181B.

  • See the study findings and hear specific examples from people who’ve been bullied.
  • Learn to spot the various forms of workplace bullying.
  • Learn how verbal intervention and accountability can deter bullying.

Final Call for Nominations: Outstanding Master's Theses and Projects - Deadline Extended

The Graduate Advisory Council has extended the deadline for nominations for Outstanding Master’s Theses and Outstanding Master’s Projects to Wednesday, February 18. The purpose of these awards is to recognize outstanding student research and applied scholarship. Up to three thesis awards and three project awards will be made. Applications will be accepted for students who have graduated in J-Term 2014, May 2014, August 2014, or December 2014.

Nominations may be made by thesis or project advisers or by students themselves. Additional reviews are required from the department chair and one external evaluator. Guidelines and forms are available on the Graduate School website.

Please submit all nominations and evaluation forms to the Graduate School, Cleveland Hall 204, by February 18. Please direct questions to Marnie Letzelter, assistant to the dean of the Graduate School, ext. 5609.

Buffalo State students who are planning to start a business or who currently have a small business are invited to a Student Entrepreneurship Dialogue on Friday, February 13, at 3:00 p.m. in Bishop Hall 107, home of the student INC.ubator.

Students will learn how to be part of the INC.ubator, meet other student entrepreneurs, and learn how the Small Business Development Center can help.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Office (SoTL) is accepting applications for two one-year, $2,000 faculty development fellowships to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning on campus. Full-time faculty members, departments, and interdisciplinary groups are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted electronically until 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 3. Annual Design Foundations Exhibition Opens Today

The annual Design Foundations Exhibition will open at 9:00 a.m. today, February 11, in the Dr. Margaret E. Bacon Student Gallery on the ground floor of Upon Hall.

On display are two- and three-dimensional works created by students in DES 101, DES 102, and DES 103 courses, selected by foundations faculty members Missy Crowell, Jerry Mead, Colleen Toledano, and Carol Townsend. Also on display are pieces by the winners of the Hyatt's Award for Design Foundations in both 2-D and 3-D categories.

Show hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This exhibition will also be open on Thursday, February 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., concurrent with the reception for the annual Student Design Exhibition in the Czurles-Nelson Gallery. The Design Foundations Exhibition closes Friday, February 20.

Robert J. Elmes Jr. Memorial Scholarship Winners

The Robert J. Elmes Jr. Memorial Scholarship Committee and the CSEA Local 640 congratulate the winners of the spring 2015 Robert J. Elmes Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Congratulations to Jacqueline Davis, a first-time member recipient who is pursuing an individualized studies degree and works in Housing Services, and Tyler Winkowski, a first-time undeclared dependent recipient.

Local 640 members are reminded that the scholarship will once again be offered for fall 2015. New applicants and those who have already won are eligible and welcome to apply. Watch for applications in late July. This scholarship is sponsored by the Elmes family, and its continued success is made possible by donations to the Robert J. Elmes Jr. Memorial Scholarship Foundation Account.

Electrical Shutdown Thursday Morning: Technology Building

An electrical shutdown affecting the Technology Building will take place from 5:00 a.m. to approximately 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12. Building occupants are asked to shut down computers and peripherals before the interruption. This planned service disruption will accommodate the adjustment of electrical breaker settings in the building. This notification will also be posted on Technology Building entrances.
