Faculty Development Series: Teaching Commons IV - Helping Students Gain More from the Readings - November 13

The Professional Development Center will offer the next session in the Teaching Commons series on Friday, November 13, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Butler Library 181B.

Teaching Commons, an ongoing roundtable discussion of twenty-first-century pedagogical practices, offers faculty and staff members the chance to share teaching successes and discuss ways to avoid common challenges. In this session, Bill White, director of faculty development, will lead a discussion on helping students gain more from the readings they are asked to digest.

Professional Development Workshop: PEPDS Appraisals - October 21

The Professional Development Center will host a workshop on employee appraisals and the Performance Evaluation and Professional Development System (PEPDS) on Wednesday, October 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Butler Library 181B. Delivering feedback is critical to PEPDS. This workshop will cover how to address performance issues within contract agreement guidelines and regulations. Union representation will be on site.

Professional Development Workshop: DISCover Your Strengths and Build Better Teams - October 19

The Professional Development Center will present the workshop DISCover Your Strengths and Build Better Teams on Monday, October 19, from 10:00 a.m. to noon in Butler Library 181B.

Our ability to work more effectively with others may be as simple as understanding their personalities and what drives them to do the things they do. This workshop will introduce participants to the DISC Personality Profile, a tool not only to learn about yourself but also, more importantly, to learn about others, to minimize interpersonal conflict, and to maximize success. Participants will take the DISC Personality Profile assessment and receive a personalized report approach to use with each of their colleagues.

The Professional Development Center will present the workshop "High-Impact Practices in the Classroom" on Monday, October 5, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Butler Library 181B.

The National Survey of Student Engagement, better known as NSSE, suggests that high-impact practices, such as engaging in service learning or a learning community, can significantly enrich the collegiate experience for undergraduates. Join colleagues in this discussion on how to include these practices in classes to increase engagement, retention, and student satisfaction.
