Snow and Ice Conditions: Helpful Reminders

Posted:

As winter unfolds, everyone is encouraged to prepare for freezing temperatures and slick surface conditions. Dress in layers and wear hats and warm shoes with good tread. Equip cars with thermal blankets, first-aid kits, nonperishable rations, a snow shovel, and an ice scraper—and keep gas tanks full. Maintain a full supply of medications.

The college’s first priority is to clear roadway access for fire and ambulance vehicles and to provide accessibility for the mobility impaired. Please report your individual mobility or accessibility needs to Campus Services: student or employee. Weather responders will make every effort to keep necessary pathways clear. Please consult the campus map (PDF) for accessible parking and building entrance locations.

To report hazardous snow or ice conditions, please call 878-6111 or e-mail sidewalkaccess@buffalostate.edu. For more information, please visit Campus Services online. Thank you for your attention, and have a safe and happy new year!

Open Educational Resources Workshop: January 22 - Registration Now Open

Posted:

Academic freedom, tailored course content, affordability for students—these are important issues for many faculty members today. Join your colleagues and Lumen Learning to find out how open educational resources (OER) can address these issues and more during the OER for Open Courses workshop on Friday, January 22.

OER are designed for open sharing, collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and tailorability—in both online and face-to-face courses. Learn how to adopt, adapt, and build OER to increase affordability and access for students, give faculty members greater engagement in teaching and learning, and measure and demonstrate OER’s impact on educational outcomes and costs.

This practical workshop will outline OER best practices, report findings from research on efficacy and impact of OER-based courses, and enable faculty members to explore new pedagogical approaches enabled via open education. Designed to appeal to both OER novices and those faculty members who’ve attended Buffalo State’s previous OER workshops, this one-day event will bring attendees up to date with current developments in OER.

Sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Technology Building 160 (morning sessions) and Technology Building 358 (afternoon sessions). The final agenda, registration links, and more can be found on the workshop’s website.

Register for this informational and inspiring event today. Registration is now open to everyone, so please share this event with friends and colleagues throughout the region.
