Call for Works: 'Stay Gold' at the Burchfield Penney Art Center - December 8

Posted:

Members of the community are invited to submit visual art proposals for the Burchfield Penney Art Center's reprise anniversary celebration "Stay Gold" on Friday, December 8. Proposals are due by Tuesday, October 10.

The Burchfield Penney Art Center’s 50th anniversary party in 2016, “Golden,” was such a successful one-night-only celebration of the incredible arts in Buffalo that the center has decided to do it again. In the tradition of "Golden," "Stay Gold" will continue to be a fun, free, and eclectic celebration of all the Buffalo arts scenes have to offer, including site-specific installations and many local musicians performing throughout the night.

Though the Burchfield Penney Art Center is now 51 years old, this is still relatively young for museums in America, let alone throughout the world. The center has chosen the title “Stay Gold” to remind ourselves, and all of Buffalo, that the Burchfield Penney will continue to embrace emerging and avant-garde art as we move forward as an arts institution. “Stay Gold” reminds us to stay true to our roots and to stay fresh and invigorated in our artistic goals.

Artists are encouraged to take this opportunity to experiment with new and lively ways to express themselves and interact with the public using the center as a canvas. The goal of the visual art installations is to encourage artists and the public to think about the exciting parts of the building other than the galleries.

Rather than assigning artists to pre-determined locations, we invite artists to select the sites they wish to work with. Applicants can attend a brief staff-guided walk-through today, October 5, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend the walk-through, please contact archivist Heather Gring to make alternative arrangements.

Individuals, collaborations, and collectives are all welcome to apply. An honorarium will be offered to all participants whose proposals are selected. All proposals must be submitted using the online form. Artists’ proposals will be reviewed and selected by the curatorial staff at the Burchfield Penney Art Center. All selected works must adhere to accepted museum installation practices. Successful candidates will be notified by Monday, October 16. Please contact Heather Gring with questions.
