New Trial Database: Romanticism: Life, Literature and Landscape

Butler Library has free trial access to a new database, "Romanticism: Life, Literature and Landscape," until November 30.

This digital collection gives students, faculty members, and researchers of the Romantic period access to the manuscript collections of the Wordsworth Trust. The database provides unique access to the working notebooks, verse manuscripts, and correspondence of William Wordsworth and his fellow writers, including Dorothy Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas De Quincey, and Robert Southey.

Understanding scholarly impact can help you decide where to publish, help you see the impact of your publications, and help you explain the importance of scholarship to your students. Add Your Materials to January Orientation Welcome Bags

Campus departments and offices are invited to add fliers and other information about their areas to the new student and parent welcome bags that will be distributed during January Orientation sessions.

Please indicate if your materials are for first-year (freshman), transfer, or parent bags (or any combination). The following quantities are needed: first-year (50), transfer (300), and parents (50).

Please submit materials to New Student and Family Programs, Campbell Student Union 400, by Wednesday, December 5.

Haiti Service-Learning Trip: 'Souped Up' Food Truck Fundraiser

The "Souped Up" food truck will be on campus Wednesday, November 14, to offer a soup-and-sandwich combo as a fundraiser for the college's upcoming service-learning trip to Haiti.

Sandwiches offered: Philly cheese steak; house-made bacon jam melt; triple-threat grilled cheese; Barbacoa street taco; and chicken and peanut wrap.

Soups offered: French onion; sausage, bean, and kale; dill pickle; butter bean; minestrone; and chicken.

A portion of the proceeds will support Buffalo State student travel costs on our next trip to Haiti to support the Hope for Haiti organization.

International Education Week: Saudi Arabian Students, Sushi Do Rolling, Cultural Quilt-Making

The Global Engagement Office thanks the faculty, staff, students, and community for participating in International Education Week 2018.

Today, students from Saudi Arabia will share their life experiences while tabling in the Campbell Student Union from noon to 1:00 p.m. Sushi Do will feature sushi rolling, made to order, from noon to 1:00 p.m. And students and staff are encouraged to participate in a cultural quilt-making activity at 3:00 p.m. in the Global Lounge on the third floor of Butler Library. This will be a time to share your own culture and celebrate you.

Chartwells will offer Karaage fried chicken and ramen from Japan in the Bengal Kitchen.

Today: International Education Week - International Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Celebration

The Global Engagement Office will celebrate our current international students and alumni today at 4:00 p.m. in the Jacqueline Vito LoRusso Alumni and Visitor Center. We will also take a moment to recognize Jean F. Gounard, former director of international student affairs, for his years of service to Buffalo State.

The Equity and Campus Diversity Office will host a screening and discussion of the film The Unafraid, a documentary about DACA students in the United States, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center's Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium.

And Chartwells features the Caribbean dish jerk chicken with rice and beans in the Bengal Kitchen.

International Education Week: Today's Activities

The Global Engagement Office invites the college community to join in today's activities celebrating International Education Week:

  • From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., freshmen will be presenting posters in the Campbell Student Union lobby. Find out where these students come from and why they chose Buffalo State.
  • From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the "Souped Up" food truck will be at Cleveland Circle selling a soup-and-sandwich combo for $10. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go toward travel expenses for a service-learning study-abroad project to Haiti supporting Hope for Haiti.
  • At 3:00 p.m., Wendell Rivera, senior counselor in the Buffalo State Counseling Center, will help students and faculty members de-stress with a drum circle in Rockwell Hall 101. 
  • At 7:00 p.m., Peace Corps representative Anne Tatarsky will offer a presentation in Neumann Hall on Peace Corps volunteer opportunities.
  • At 8:00 p.m., Global Village LLC will celebrate our exchange students from France with a reception in Bishop Hall.
  • Special thanks to Chartwells for offering ethnic food in the Bengal Kitchen during International Education Week. Today’s dish is kapsa chicken and rice from Saudi Arabia. It will be offered in addition to other daily selections.
