Tell Students: ‘Access BSC’ Summer Transition Program - Apply Today

Buffalo State will host Access BSC, a summer program for college-bound high school students with learning differences, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. July 8–12.

Eligible applicants will be students with a learning difference who

  • are currently a sophomore, junior, or senior in high school;
  • are college bound;
  • are able to be transported to and from Buffalo State College during the week;
  • have parent or guardian approval; and
  • have a supporting letter from their counselor (school or vocational rehabilitation).

The cost is free; a $25 refundable check will reserve a spot for participating students.

Application forms are available online.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 24.

Tell Students: Deadline for Student Election Applications Is Tomorrow

Are you looking for a student leadership position where you can gain experience and earn some income? Consider applying for one of the paid campus positions for the 2019–2020 academic year listed below.

Visit the Bengal Connect website (login required) to fill out an application. The deadline to submit applications is tomorrow, February 8. Descriptions and requirements of the positions are also available online. The following positions are available:

  • USG President (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Executive Vice President (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Treasurer (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Vice President for Academic Affairs (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Vice President for Campus Affairs and Government Relations (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Vice President for Public Relations (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Vice President for Campus Programming (one position, one-year term)
  • USG Senator (30 positions, one-year term)

If time is a concern, please consider one of the following positions. These positions are not paid but involve less of a time commitment and still give you the résumé boost and experience.

  • Faculty-Student Association Board Member (two positions, two-year term)
  • College Senator (10 positions, one-year term)
  • College Council (one position, one-year term)
  • Student Assembly Delegate (two positions, one-year term)
  • Intercollegiate Athletics Board (non-competitor and at-large position available, one-year term)

  • Grant Allocation Committee (three undergraduate positions, two-year term)

In Memoriam: Richard Gubernick

The Buffalo State community is saddened by the death of Richard Gubernick, ’55, professor emeritus of fine arts, who died January 29, 2019. Mr. Gubernick joined the college in 1969 and retired in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Buckman, and two children. A memorial service is planned for spring. More information is available online.

Tell Students: IPDS Italy Information Sessions - February 19, 21

Program leaders of the International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) Italy program will provide two information sessions (PDF, 1.1 MB) for students interested in a two-and-a-half-week teach- and study-away opportunity in Italy in January 2020.

Tuesday, February 19, 3:00–4:00 p.m., Bacon Hall 123
Thursday, February 21, 12:15–1:30 p.m., Rockwell Hall 107

Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible to participate, even if they plan to graduate in December 2019. Applications (PDF, 87 KB) are due Monday, April 1.

Tomorrow: First College Senate Meeting for Spring 2019

From the Chair of the College Senate
The first College Senate meeting of the spring 2019 semester will be held at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow, February 8, in Bulger Communication Center 215. The meeting agenda is posted on the College Senate website. The meeting schedule for the remainder of the 2019 spring semester is also available on the College Senate website.

The annual College Senate elections will take place in April. Two seats for at-large senators, one seat for university faculty senator, and one seat for alternate university faculty senator will be available beginning in fall 2019. These positions are for three-year terms, 2019–2022. The College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee will make a formal announcement in the Daily Bulletin on the nomination and election process in the coming weeks. Please consider serving on the College Senate.

The College Senate Office is located in Cleveland Hall 211. Joseph Marren, professor of communication, serves as chair of the College Senate for the 2018–2019 academic year. Please stop by the office, call 878-5139, or e-mail Vincent Masci, assistant to the College Senate, with questions or for general information.
