New Curricular Routing Forms

Posted:

The chair of the College Senate Curriculum Committee has initiated new forms for submitting curricular proposals through the College Senate. Please do not use old forms or templates or anything other than those featured on the College Senate Curriculum web pages. Forms for new and revised program and course proposals streamline, clarify, and correct information in all categorical areas. Associate deans have been informed of these updates and can guide departments with questions or concerns.

Accuracy of Routing Forms, Course Prefix Numbers

Posted:

Old or historical prefixes may not be used for new course submissions. New courses must have new prefixes. When submitting course proposals, please make sure that the assigned prefix number has not been used in the past.

When submitting curricular proposals, please be sure to check all appropriate boxes and fill in all relevant areas on course, program, or minor approval routing forms. If a course is IF infused (INF), please indicate which infusions are being requested. Please make certain the titles of submitted curricular items match the proposal form titles on all routing forms. Proposals that do not match routing form information will not be accepted by the College Senate Office.

Submitters are responsible for ensuring that submitted information is correct and that the respective associate dean has checked its accuracy before sending it on to the College Senate Office. The Senate Office reviews all items before publishing them in the Daily Bulletin, but the office is not responsible for information that is listed incorrectly on original forms.

All curricular templates and routing forms for courses, major programs, and minor programs are available on the College Senate website.

Outstanding Curricular Revisions (APRs)

Posted:

Several outstanding curricular items that were approved pending revisions (APR)* by the College Senate Curriculum Committee remain from the 2014–2015 academic year. The College Senate Office requests that all schools and departments please follow up with these outstanding APRs. If you received a request to revise your submission (a.k.a. green revisions or APRs) from the previous College Senate Curriculum Committee chair, Karen Sands-O’Connor, please complete these revisions so that your curricular proposal can move forward to the final local** approval process. The respective associate dean must sign all routing forms and provide paper and electronic copies of updated course descriptions reflective of the revisions requested by the Curriculum Committee. The College Senate thanks those schools that have followed up with APRs from last year.

Several curricular items are awaiting revisions before they can be finalized and advanced to the president. Please check with your associate dean or department chair to ensure that these are completed. Please contact Vincent Masci, assistant to the College Senate, 878-5139, with questions.

*Curricular items that were approved by the College Senate Curriculum Committee pending minor revisions.

**All programs must meet SUNY guidelines; SUNY reviews are conducted in Albany, following local reviews. Approval or denial of all programs is at the discretion of SUNY.

Curricular Challenges

Posted:

From the Chair of the College Senate Curriculum Committee
All curricular proposal challenges must be received within 15 days of submission to the chair of the Curriculum Committee for consideration. After the 15-day deadline, challenges will not be considered, as this affects the committee’s reviewing process. Please consult your associate dean with inquiries.

All non-local programs and credit-bearing certificates must meet SUNY mandates.

Curricular Submissions

Posted:

From the Chair of the College Senate Curriculum Committee
When submitting curricular proposals in KissFlow, please make sure the proposal accurately reflects the nature of the course or program. A revision should state “Reason for Revision,” as opposed to new, which states “Reason for Addition.” Also make certain that the routing form information matches the proposal description, especially catalog descriptions. If a title change occurs after the first submission, the new title should be reflected on the revised proposal description. The College Senate Office sometimes receives mismatched proposals, leading to inaccurate listings in the Daily Bulletin. Associate deans must ensure that all submissions match their routing forms and proposals before sending them via KissFlow to the Senate Office. The Senate Office checks submissions but is not responsible for mismatched documents.

KissFlow Process, Technical Assistance

Posted:

From the Chair of the College Senate Curriculum Committee
Associate deans and department chairs should regularly check their e-mail from KissFlow; this is the main communication device used in the Curriculum Committee reviewing process. Departments must be sure to delete proposals from KissFlow once they are approved, withdrawn, or rejected. Also, for proposals that require revisions, updated versions must be uploaded (including any online routing forms that may have changed) and previous, unapproved versions deleted. Title changes and prefixes also must be correctly updated in KissFlow when changes are made to original submissions. Please remember that any new course proposal prefix must not be reused from previous years or historical use.

Curricular authors, department chairs, or associate deans who experience technical problems with KissFlow, including uploading documents, workflow processes, and additions, should contact Andrew Chambers, information management specialist in RITE, who handles all technical issues within KissFlow. Neither the Senate Office nor the Curriculum Committee has access to proposals in the workflow system.
