Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff

Posted:

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on all state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Saturday, November 2, in honor of World War II U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Thomas J. E. Crotty of Buffalo. Lieutenant Crotty was reported MIA and later died at the Cabanatuan POW camp in the Philippines in July 1942. His body will be repatriated to the United States and interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Buffalo on November 2.

"We all owe a debt of gratitude to Lieutenant Crotty for his service and making ultimate sacrifice while defending our country to ensure freedom for future generations of New Yorkers," Governor Cuomo said. "To honor Lt. Crotty and his legacy as he is finally and rightfully returned home to Buffalo, I am directing flags to half-staff on all state buildings and on behalf of all New Yorkers, I express our sincerest appreciation for his service."

More information is available on the governor's website.

Tell Students: First-Generation Celebration Week

Posted:

The third annual national First-Generation College Celebration is Friday, November 8. (First-generation students are students whose biological parents did not complete a four-year college degree.)

In honor of First Generation week, the Dean of Students Office and the Restorative Justice Center are partnering to host the campuswide Community Circle “First Generation: Navigating the Unspoken Expectations of College” on Wednesday, November 6, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. This event—which is open to first-generation students, faculty, and staff—will unpack what it means to be a first-generation college student, explore the identity, and connect through shared experience and resources. Lunch will be served after the circle.

RSVP online. We hope to see there!

In addition, Student Affairs will host an ice cream social in the Campbell Student Union for first-generation students on Friday, November 8, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Come and meet the departments of Student Affairs and enjoy some ice cream with a variety of toppings.

More information is available on the Center for First-Generation Student Success website.
