Upgrades to Academic Calendars

Posted:

In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Office, the Registrar's Office has made improvements to the PDF versions of the academic and college calendars. The documents are more polished and visually consistent with other Buffalo State efforts. In addition, the PDF version of the 2019–2020 Academic Calendar lists the dates of past and future events and presents information in a similar way to the old bookmarks.

Chemistry-Physics 2020 Seminar Series: 'On "Tumor-Seeking" Near IR-Dyes' - February 27

Posted:

Please join the Chemistry and Physics departments for the seminar "On 'Tumor-Seeking' Near IR-Dyes," presented by Kevin Burgess, professor and Rachal Chair in Chemistry at Texas A & M University, on Thursday, February 27, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Science and Mathematics Complex 176.

Abstract
Cyanine A is typical of an elite group of “tumor-seeking” dyes known to accumulate in tumors in vivo and persist there. Fluor A in mice is easily visualized in animal studies because light used to excite at its absorption maxima, near 780 nm, penetrates tissue well, and because its quantum yield is acceptable for detection. Dyes like this are precious tools for in vivo optical imaging because they conspicuously reveal tumor tissue. This talk will discuss what was known about how A is imported into tumor cells, and data from our lab that furthers this understanding of how it accumulates in cancer tissues, and why they persists there. It will also outline the potential of these dyes in theranostics to deliver kinase inhibitors and other therapeutics.
