IT News: Re-enroll in Campus Secure Wireless - Cloudpath Certificate Expires June 30

Posted:

The current security certificate for the campus wireless network expires Wednesday, June 30. As a reminder, faculty and staff members have a choice of wireless connections on campus: Bengal, the secure wireless network, or BengalOpen16, the public wireless network. Employees are strongly encouraged to use the secure connection (Bengal) for reasons of convenience and security.

The campus uses a third-party application, Cloudpath, to deliver the security certificate to users’ mobile devices. This security certificate allows employees to use their Buffalo State credentials to connect to the Buffalo State secure wireless network (Bengal). Once users install this certificate and log in, they should remain logged in until the certificate expires. The certificate is good for one year. The current certificate expires  June 30. Please update your certificate now to prepare for the eventual return to campus.

To update your certificate, use your mobile device to go to the Buffalo State Secure Wireless page. Make sure you log in at the top right of the page. Click “Enroll Your Device” and follow the directions. Do this for each mobile device that you use to connect to the Buffalo State secure wireless network.

Cybersecurity Virtual Workshop for WNY Teachers: July 20-23

Posted:

Buffalo State College will virtually host a four-day cybersecurity workshop, sponsored by Google, for in-service secondary school teachers of Western New York from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, to Friday, July 23. The goals of the workshop are increasing interest in cybersecurity careers and diversity in the cybersecurity workforce of the nation, helping secondary school students understand correct and safe online behavior and becoming good digital citizens, and improving teaching methods for the delivery of cybersecurity content in K–12 curricula. The workshop will present cybersecurity topics including data security, cyber ethics, ethical hacking, social engineering, cryptography, web security, the Internet of Things, person re-identification, and cybersecurity career awareness.

Ensuring that enough young people are inspired to direct their talents in this area is critical to the future of our country's national and economic security as we become even more reliant on cyber-based technology in every aspect of our daily lives. If you know of any high school mathematics, science, or technology teachers who might be interested in attending, please encourage them to visit the CS4HS website and register for the free virtual cybersecurity workshop.
