Tell Students: President's Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement

Posted:

Buffalo State College President Katherine Conway-Turner and the Civic and Community Engagement Office want to recognize your achievements and the positive impact you have made in the community. If you have completed between 200 and 1,000 hours of community service, apply now!

Accepted community service activities include service-learning courses, individual or group volunteering, community activism, participating in Bengals Dare to Care Day or Alternative Break, or any combination of these activities.

The following activities do not count for this recognition: student teaching, classroom observation, paid experiences, and program-required internships.

This award will help you stand out in your job or graduate school applications and connect you with others on campus who make a difference in our community. While the application will still be open in spring 2022, December graduates are strongly encouraged to apply before the end of the fall 2021 semester. For more information on how to apply, please visit the Civic and Community Engagement website.

Tell Students: Make Your Exam Appointments Online for the Testing Center at Student Accessibility Services

Posted:

Do you have students who need to take their exams in the Testing Center at Student Accessibility Services (SAS)?

The Testing Center is student-driven, meaning that students are empowered to take ownership of their exam accommodations; it is their right to determine when and if they want to use their exam accommodations.

We strongly urge instructors to remind students to schedule their own exam appointments directly with the Testing Center using the online form found on the SAS website. Scheduling directly with the Testing Center enables the student to ensure they are receiving all their exam accommodations.

Additionally, when the Testing Center operates in the student-driven model, the following benefits are accomplished:

  • Instructors receive an email for each exam appointment made, ensuring that they are aware of which student(s) are taking their exam at the Testing Center and which are not.
  • There is a reduction in unnecessary communications, emails, and workload due to assumptions that a student(s) will take their exam in the Testing Center.
  • There is a preservation of resources used in preparation for the administration of exams for student(s) who have no intention of using the Testing Center for their exam(s).

We would like to thank all Buffalo State instructors for their participation, understanding, and support during this cultural change.

If your students need assistance completing the online form, or if they have questions about their responsibilities, they should email Andrea Gustafson, staff member in charge of the Testing Center, at exams@buffalostate.edu or make an appointment with her through the Bengal Success Portal to review the process.

Registrar's Office: Key Summary Information on Handling Instructor Override

Posted:

This information is provided to students via a Student Announcement:

If a student is granted an override in Banner, he or she must then attempt to register for the course again by entering the CRN on the Add Classes Worksheet at the bottom of the Add or Drop Classes page and clicking Submit. The student must be sure to click Submit to be successful.

The student should not attempt to search for the section using Look Up Classes. The course may not appear available, especially if it is closed because it has reached maximum enrollment capacity.

Registration Add Error: First Steps

  • The student receives a "Registration Add Error" and wants to pursue registering for the course.

  • The instructor determines (through department policy) if the student should be granted the override.
  • Students can check for the override status in the Registration Status link in Banner.
  • If the override is granted, the student must then attempt to register for the course again by entering the CRN on the worksheet and submitting. They must select submit. Registrar's Office: J-Term/Spring 2022 Registration

Posted:

Registration for J-Term and spring 2022 for continuing students is Wednesday, November 3–Monday, November 15.

In Banner self-service, students can now view their registration start date or time ticket under "Registration Status." For continuing undergraduate freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the registration start date is based on earned credit hours only. Do not count "in progress" credit hours the student is taking for fall 2021.

Continuing students registered for fall 2021 are expected to register for spring 2022 during the registration start dates from November 3 to 15 or within two weeks thereafter. Students should be encouraged to register early to secure their desired schedule. Registration begins at 6:00 a.m. on the assigned date and is then continuous.

Students should meet with an adviser in their major to review what courses they should take to stay on track for graduation. Department contact information can be found online. All undergraduates are encouraged to register for at least 15 credit hours each semester to assist them with graduating in four years.

Search for January/Spring 2022 courses. Students can see course listings by searching directly in Banner under "Look Up Classes."

Composition courses "College Writing I" and "College Writing II" are listed as CWP 101 and CWP 102 respectively. To find them in Banner, go to "Look Up Classes" and under "Subject" select "College Writing Program."

Students are always strongly encouraged to view their records for any holds. Holds should be resolved at least two working days before they intend to register. Additional hold information is available on the Registrar's Office website.

Students are strongly encouraged to use Schedule Planner. It's an easy to use online tool that makes schedule planning and registration easier.

Review the Registrar's Office web page Registration Tool Kit for additional information.
