Lot R-14 Closed May 10-11 for USG Carnival

Lot R-14 will be closed from 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, until 11:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, for the United Students Government (USG) annual carnival on May 11.

Vehicles parked in Lot R-14 must be relocated to an alternative lot during this time. Available parking lots include G-20, G-21, G-22, and I-39. Registered owners of vehicles that are not relocated to another lot by 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, are solely responsible for any damage incurred to their vehicles. University Police may tow any vehicles at the registered owners' expense.

Alan Doyle, lead singer of the Canadian folk rock band Great Big Sea, brings his tour to the Performing Arts Center this Saturday, May 11, at 8:00 p.m. Expect a large crowd on campus during this time. The show is nearly sold out. A few limited tickets are still available and can be purchased on the PAC website.

Faculty Textbook Usage, Trends Survey Closing Soon

E. H. Butler Library is conducting a survey on faculty textbook usage. This six-to-eight-minute survey is designed to collect information on faculty trends using textbooks and open educational resources (OER). The results collected will provide quantitative data to analyze future textbook affordability initiatives. It will also assist Butler Library with OER programming that supports open pedagogy. Additionally, these data will provide insight into SUNY-wide initiatives that has included campus funding and grant opportunities in the past. If you have not filled out this survey, please do so by Wednesday, May 15.

AI and Assessment

Presenter: Nikki Childrose, Ph.D., associate professor of history and chair of the Division of Technical Professions, Columbia-Greene Community College

This session will help participants understand the role of AI in academic assessment, explore current applications, and discuss potential benefits and challenges in their classes. The session will highlight the transformative role of AI in reshaping teaching and learning, especially in student-centered discussion boards, entry and exit tickets, and research development while emphasizing the importance of exploring AI's impact on academic assessment. Best practices will be shared for leveraging AI to enhance teaching and seamlessly integrating AI into teaching practices.

Non-Leap Year Salary Calculation 2024-2025 for Salaried Employees

New York State fiscal year April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025, is a non-leap year. In any fiscal year in which February 29 falls, the Office of the State Comptroller automatically adjusts salaried employees' biweekly salary calculations based on 366 days in the fiscal year. Salaried employees will see a change in their biweekly gross earnings beginning with the April 24, 2024, paycheck to adjust the calculation based on 365 days in the current fiscal year. Hourly wage employees are not affected. 

Full-time faculty members will see the calculation change in the September 25, 2024, paycheck (Calendar Year obligation dates are September 1-August 31).

Today: Buffalo State 3-Minute Capstone Contest, Graduate Student Research Fair

Please attend today's GSA/Graduate Studies-sponsored ninth annual 3-Minute Capstone Contest that starts promptly at 5:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall. The 13th annual Graduate Student Research Fair in the Social Hall begins immediately following the Captone Contest. These events celebrate the exciting research conducted by graduate students across a spectrum of disciplines.

During the Capstone Contest, students explain their research in three minutes or less in creative and entertaining ways appropriate to a non-specialist audience for cash prizes. The Research Fair provides a poster-session forum for graduate students to display and discuss their research with the campus and community. Winners of the Outstanding Master's Thesis and Project Awards will be honored during the Research Fair. Please come to support and celebrate the accomplishments of our remarkable graduate students! The general public is welcome to attend.
