Sue Baldwin, Health and Wellness

Posted:

Sue Baldwin, assistant professor and internship program director for the Health and Wellness Department, received a $22,000 grant to implement a K–5 health education online and paper curriculum focusing on physical activity and nutrition in the Newfane Central School District. The project also involves a nutrition assessment of the school lunch program by Kelly Cardamone, a registered dietician. Undergraduate student researcher Leah Knott will teach all of the health lessons to the faculty and students in this two-year project.

Bae,  assistant professor, Art Education, took part in a panel presentation, “Girls Go Online,” as part of the Girls’ Studies conference, “Reimagining Girlhood: Communities, Identities, and Self-portrayals,” held at SUNY Cortland, October 22–24. Bae’s presentation was “Being a Global Girl: Producing In-Between Online Culture and Femininity.”

The award honors individuals who have consistently provided outstanding service to library patrons, reflecting DiLandro’s commitment to collection development, teaching, and community outreach.

Aimable Twagilimana, professor of English and coordinator of the African and African American Studies Interdisciplinary Unit, gave one of the two keynote lectures at the inaugural conference of the Global Citizenship Institute that took place at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Buffalo, October 6–7. Sponsored by the University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, and Harris Beach PLLC, the conference brought together Western New York superintendents, principals, teachers, and other community leaders. The conference's two main themes were social justice and cross-cultural education. Twagilimana's keynote lecture was “Global Citizenship, Human Rights, and Social Responsibility.”

Richard Herdlein, associate professor, Student Personnel Administration, presented research findings from a national survey with coauthors Jessica Sobczak, staff assistant with The Graduate School, and Christie Rossiter, graduate assistant, at the College Student Personnel Association of New York State annual conference held October 3–5 in Rochester, New York. The topic was “A Survey of Senior Student Affairs Officer Perceptions of the Ubiquitous Role of Politics in Student Affairs Administration.”
