Academic Affairs Spring Meeting: January 23

Faculty and staff members in Academic Affairs are invited to join me for the second annual Academic Affairs spring meeting on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. This will be a working meeting, and this year’s topic will be “What does it mean to be an urban-engaged college for your department?”

Wine, cheese, and other refreshments will be served. To assist with planning, please respond by Friday, December 15.

I have approved the following dates for 2018 First-Year (FY) and Transfer (TR) Orientation, recommended by the Orientation Advisory Committee:

Spring 2018
TR Session: Thursday, January 25
FY Session: Friday, January 26                              

Summer 2018
First-Year (FY) Orientation will be held in six sessions:

FY Session 1: Monday, June 25, and Tuesday, June 26
FY Session 2: Thursday, June 28, and Friday, June 29
FY Session 3: Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6
FY Session 4: Monday, July 9, Tuesday, July 10
FY Session 5: Thursday, July 12, and Friday, July 13
FY Session 6: Wednesday, August 22, and Thursday, August 23 (make-up session)

Transfer (TR) Orientation will be held in three sessions:
TR Session 1: Friday, June 22
TR Session 2: Monday, July 16
TR Session 3: Tuesday, August 21

I thank the Orientation Advisory Committee for its work, and I especially thank the campus community for its work to prepare our new Bengals in their transition to Buffalo State College.

  4. Plan strategic enrollment growth to meet regional and statewide needs
  5. Develop and propagate plans that are consistent with the mission and values of the college
  6. Review the results of new programs and policies that enhance recruitment and enrollment efforts
  7. Report regularly to the president and the cabinet and submit an annual report of the work of the committee

Budget Committee Support Group

I am pleased to advise the campus community that I have established a Budget Committee Support Group. The charge of this group is as follows:

  • Review division budget proposals for alignment with the campus strategic plan, financial feasibility, and potential approaches to funding
  • Review special fund budget plans for reasonableness and consistency with the overall campus budget
  • Provide supporting information and analysis to the Budget Committee,* as requested, to assist in campus budget decision making
  • Coordinate and lead campus presentations and obtain feedback on budget plans and opportunities for revenue generation and cost savings
  • Evaluate and oversee implementation of enhancements to campus systems to support the budget management process
