Deadline to Use Deficit Reduction Leave

Posted:

Employees who were included in the NYS Deficit Reduction Leave Program (DRL) are reminded that any remaining Deficit Reduction Leave accruals must be used no later than March 31, 2013, or be forfeited. DRL was implemented for all Management/Confidential employees and employees in the CSEA, PEF, and PBA/NYS bargaining units.

DRL is to be requested in advance and is subject to supervisory approval in the same manner as vacation and personal leave accruals. DRL credits may not be used to cover unscheduled absences such as calling in sick but may be used for planned appointments, with prior supervisory approval, including medical appointments or scheduled absences normally charged to sick leave.

The final payroll deduction for the Deficit Reduction Leave Program will be taken in paychecks dated March 27, 2013.

If you have questions regarding the Deficit Reduction Leave Program, please call Human Resource Management at ext. 4822.

A Working Session: Advancing a Virtual Teaching Environment

Posted:

Please join us for the online working session "Advancing a Virtual Teaching Environment" on Tuesday, February 5, and Tuesday, February 26, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

3-D worlds are potentially important tools that are likely to gain widespread adoption as colleges become populated with "digital native" students. The International Center for Studies in Creativity has conducted some initial experiments with a 3-D virtual teaching environment called Qube, which seems to offer an interesting combination of features that make it particularly appropriate for distance teaching, learning, and creative collaboration in various disciplines (below is a link to a YouTube link that describes the platform). We need your help (ideas and suggestions) to further advance the development of this platform across disciplines. In this working session, we will

  • demonstrate how we facilitate and teach our graduate creativity courses by using this innovative technology;
  • offer participants a chance to experiment with the platforms and its features;
  • provide participants immediate access and support when using platform for their class instructions.

This working session is supported by a SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant. Thank you for your help. Please direct questions and R.S.V.P. to John Cabra, associate professor of creative studies.

Information for Deleting Documents, Images, or Web Pages from Ingeniux Sites

Posted:

For myriad reasons, it is important that we host only up-to-date web pages, images, and documents on Buffalo State websites. If you have an Ingeniux site and have deleted pages, images, or documents from your site, but you have never worked with College Relations to also have these files removed from the web servers, your files may still be found via web search. To permanently remove files, please follow the instructions below.

First step: Identify any pages, images, or documents that need to be deleted in any or all of the following ways:

  1. Review your live site for “unpublished” files or files stored in the “recycle folder.”

  2. Use Google and customized search strings to arrive at all pages hosted by your site that appear via web search (search strings for reviewing the College Relations site for xml/pdf/doc/xls files provided as examples):
    “site:www.buffalostate.edu/collegerelations filetype:xml” (enter without quotes) “site:www.buffalostate.edu/collegerelations filetype:pdf” (enter without quotes) “site:www.buffalostate.edu/collegerelations filetype:doc” (enter without quotes) “site:www.buffalostate.edu/collegerelations filetype:xls” (enter without quotes)

  3. Review the electronic report listing all web files hosted on your Ingeniux site that is being e-mailed to directors and chairs this week.

Second step: When you identify files that need to be deleted, please collect and e-mail URLs to meehanme@buffalostate.edu. You will be notified when the files have been deleted from the campus web servers.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Questions may be directed to Melissa Meehan, ext. 3903.
