Buffalo State Dining Balanced U: Metabolism Boosters

Posted:

Buffalo State Dining's Balanced U program is a holistic approach to food and nutrition. It’s based on one concept—we eat food. To help students, faculty, and staff understand how food plays into health, Balanced U consists of monthly subjects that act as an educational opportunity to focus on food topics of interest to our customers. March's monthly subject is Metabolism Boosters.

While no miracle food exists, some choices can help you trim your waistline. The Grapefruit Diet, the Zone Diet, the Green Tea Diet—lots of research has been done in search of that one food or combination of foods that will send your metabolism soaring and melt away the pounds. Unfortunately, no such food exists. Overall, you still need to consume fewer calories and burn more calories with exercise. But there are some foods that can give you a little more boost!

Buffalo State Dining invites you to Bengal Hall, located in the Campbell Student Union, today from noon to 2:00 p.m. for our Balanced U Metabolism Boosters gathering. Try foods from our Balanced U station that are guaranteed to help boost your metabolism! Plus, receive recipes and tips from our dietitian on how to eat healthy all year long.

Enter with a meal swipe or lunch door price of $8.39.

Assessment Expert to Speak at Buffalo State on Thursday, March 8

Posted:

The campus community is invited to attend a presentation by Indiana University’s Thomas Nelson Laird, a nationally respected expert on higher education student engagement and assessment, on Thursday, March 8, from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center S2. The event is co-sponsored by Academic Affairs and the School of the Professions.

Laird, who has worked on the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) since 2003, will speak on the state of higher education today, sharing information on tools designed to measure student learning and experiences, and on some new organizations that are addressing these topics at a national level. Our hope is that Laird will provide insight on ways that Buffalo State can remain on the forefront of these important issues.

Please read more about Laird’s credentials on the Indiana University website. We hope to see you on March 8.

Parked in Lot M or G? Hop a Ride to Lot C on the MGC Direct!

Posted:

Just a reminder that University Police offers a free express shuttle service connecting students, faculty, and staff who park in lots along Rockwell Road and Letchworth Street to the center of campus.

The MGC Direct picks up riders in lots M and G and takes them directly to Lot C—also known as the Cleveland Hall circle—from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on days when classes are in session. The van is clearly marked as a Buffalo State escort van.

Lot M pickup locations are at blue-light phones 34 and 42, while riders from Lot G can catch the shuttle on the north side of the maintenance barn. United Students Government has generously donated shelters for riders while they wait for the van.

University Police continues to offer the overnight escort shuttle van, which operates from 4:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. seven days a week when classes are in session. The evening shuttle picks up and drops off riders at blue-light phones in campus parking lots and along perimeter roads.

Please refer to this campus map outlining the escort van routes.
