Wine Club: Uncorking the Possibilities returns in December to Trattoria Aroma on Monday, December 3, at 6:00 p.m. To register, visit the Alumni Association website.

NYS Employee Health Benefits Fair

Representatives from Community Blue, Independent Health, and the Empire Plan will be on campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 6, in E. H. Butler Library 210 to answer questions about current health insurance plans and anticipated changes in coverage for 2013. Representatives from the CSEA and UUP Benefit Trust Funds will demonstrate how to maximize dental and vision care benefits. 

Have your blood pressure checked and learn about the benefits of massage therapy. Also, obtain information about the Employee Assistance Program and meet our EAP coordinators.

Faculty and Staff Recognition Ceremony

A recognition ceremony to honor faculty and staff accomplishments will be held on Thursday, November 15, at 12:15 p.m. in Warren Enters Theatre. The event will recognize Buffalo State recipients of Chancellor's and President's awards and acknowledge faculty and staff members for certain other recognitions received in the past year. The campus community is invited to participate in this inaugural recognition ceremony and to help launch this new tradition at Buffalo State. A reception will follow in the lobby of Bulger Communication Center.

Annual Period for NYSHIP Enrollees to Make Changes to Their Coverage

The annual period for New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) enrollees to make changes to their health insurance coverage without a qualifying event is November 1–30.

The following changes may be made in the month of November:

  • Change your pretax status for insurance deductions.
  • Change from family to individual coverage.
  • Voluntarily cancel your health insurance coverage.

Note: unless you have a qualifying event, the 10-week waiting period still applies to enroll for health insurance for the first time, or to add previously eligible dependents to your coverage.

Please call the Employee Benefits Office at ext. 4821 for additional information or to make changes to your coverage.

Health Insurance Option Transfer Period

Each year, employees who are enrolled in the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) may select a different health plan by completing change forms in the Employee Benefits Office, Cleveland Hall 410. Employees may choose from the Empire Plan or one of the two health maintenance organizations: Community Blue or Independent Health.

Employees will have 30 days from the date the 2013 rates are approved and published to change their health insurance carrier. The New York State Employee Benefits Division will mail information about the new health plan rates and deadline dates to enrolled employees' home addresses. "Choices," a comparison booklet of the insurance plans, will be available on the Human Resource Management website and in the Employee Benefits Office by late November.

Record Number of Offices Give to Homecoming Food Drive

A record 27 offices contributed to the 12th annual Homecoming and Family Weekend Food Drive last week, benefiting the Buffalo State Food Pantry. Student-athletes from the softball and lacrosse teams canvassed the campus last Friday and delivered nine shopping carts of food contributed by faculty and staff members. Chartwells generously houses the Food Pantry, which is administered by members of the Food Pantry Committee. Students from Rotaract assisted in organizing the food in the pantry. Food is distributed by the committee members to Buffalo State students who need assistance with food. 2012 Design Faculty Exhibition and Reception

The annual Design Faculty Exhibition is currently on display in the Czurles-Nelson Gallery in Upton Hall. A closing reception for the artists is scheduled for Thursday, November 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the gallery. The campus community is invited to attend. 

The exhibition features a wide variety of creative work by our talented faculty in ceramics, fibers, metals and jewelry, wood and furniture, communication design, and design foundations. The exhibit will close on November 9. For additional information, please call the Design Department at ext. 6032.
