Students of Concern Care Team

Posted:

From the Dean of Students
As we start the spring 2011 semester, I want to make sure members of our campus community are aware of the work performed by the Students of Concern Care Team (formerly referred to as the Student Behavior Assessment Committee). This is a group of faculty and staff who seek to identify and provide support for students in distress who may threaten harm to themselves or others.  The recent tragedy in Tucson, Arizona, perpetrated by a former student from Pima Community College, reminds us of the need to take appropriate action, as that campus did, whenever a student’s behavior gives reason for concern. Your help in providing notice of any students of concern is essential to keeping our campus community safe.

Information about the Students of Concern Care Team, including an online reporting form, can be found at http://www.buffalostate.edu/deanofstudents/x618.xml.  Questions about the operation of the Care Team should be addressed to Charles B. Kenyon, associate vice president and dean of students, at ext. 4618 or kenyoncb@buffalostate.edu, or to any member of the team.

If you wish to invite a member of the Care Team to meet with your department or group to discuss “red flag” warning signs, ways to report a concern, legal or FERPA issues, or how to respond when confronted by a student in distress, please contact Amy Rosen Brand, associate director, Disability Services, at ext. 4500 or rosenba@buffalostate.edu.

New SUNY Website and Guidelines for Brand

Posted:

It is with great enthusiasm that we present to you the new SUNY.edu website and guidelines for SUNY’s new brand

For current and prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and partners, SUNY.edu has become the front door for the State University of New York. We hope you like what we have done with our home on the web and that our site enhances your access to information about all things SUNY.

With the new design, we have completely embraced our new brand in a way that will make SUNY.edu more engaging and hopefully will continue to nurture a sense of pride in SUNY and the bright future we have ahead of us. We have also taken a new approach to the navigation of SUNY.edu: The left side of our homepage enables you to find your way depending on who you are; on the right side, content is organized according to what you’re looking for. Each section of the site features a newly redesigned landing page organized with you in mind.

To that end, we are also launching an exciting new feature–a hub for social media throughout the SUNY system. Featuring content created by Generation SUNY, the hub also connects visitors to Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter accounts for all 64 of our campuses.

Of course, there is always room for improvement. The beauty of the web is that it can constantly grow and develop, whether it is with the smallest of details or the most innovative new functions. If you have any comments, questions, concerns, or, most importantly, ideas, please send them to our Director of New Media at david.belsky@suny.edu. We are eager to hear your input!

This new web design comes as SUNY has also completed a re-branding of our logo and print materials. With this new branding in place, we are providing PowerPoint, memo, announcement, and agenda templates with the new logo for your use, as desired.

The SUNY brand guidelines with images and the templates can be downloaded from the Office of Communications page on the SUNY website.

We have provided two versions of the templates with the SUNY logo and one version of The Power of SUNY template. Please remember that The Power of SUNY template should only be used for things pertaining to the Strategic Plan. If you have questions pertaining to the new brand guidelines, please e-mail branding@suny.edu

Thank you.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher, Ph.D.

Senate Vacancies: Call for Nominations March 21-April 4, 2011

Posted:

From the Chair of the College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee

One university faculty senator, one alternate faculty senator, and two at-large College Senate positions will become vacant on August 23. The university faculty senator serves as a senator for both the College Senate at Buffalo State and the SUNY University Faculty Senate. The alternate attends the SUNY University Faculty Senate meetings only when one of the two university faculty senators is absent.

A call for nominations and information about candidates’ statements can be found at www.buffalostate.edu/collegesenate. The Call for Nominations begins Monday, March 21, and continues through 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 4. Elections will begin on Monday, April 11, and continue through Friday, April 15.

Faculty members, faculty librarians, and professional staff whose total service in their respective positions would not exceed six consecutive years by the end of this term (September 2011–August 2014) are eligible to run for each office. Nominees are asked to provide a short statement about their interest, to be posted on the Senate electronic voting site.

Individuals running for a senator position in another election may not also run for at-large senator or university faculty senator position while the other election is being conducted.  If the other election concludes during the period when nominations for at-large or university faculty senator are still being accepted, eligible individuals may self-nominate for either position.

If you are interested in being a candidate, please contact Vince Masci at ext. 5139 or collegesenate@buffalostate.edu. We look forward to your participation in the vital process of campus governance.
