From the Chair of the College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee
One University Faculty Senate and two at-large College Senate positions will become vacant on August 25, 2014.

The University Faculty senator is a senator within both the College Senate at Buffalo State and the SUNY University Faculty Senate. All full-time academic and professional employees (PSC) are eligible to run for this seat.

At-large senators represent the entirety of the college. All full-time faculty and professional employees (PSC) are eligible to seek at-large senator positions provided they meet other eligibility requirements (see below).

A call for nominations and information about candidates’ statements can be found on the College Senate website. The call for nominations for all positions begins Monday, March 31, and continues through Friday, April 11, at 5:00 p.m. Elections for these positions will run from 12:10 a.m. Monday, April 21, to 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 25.

Eligibility: Current College Senate members who are completing two consecutive terms in their respective positions are not eligible for reelection. For additional information on eligibility requirements, please consult the College Senate bylaws.

If the other election concludes during the period when nominations for at-large or University Faculty senators are still being accepted, eligible individuals may self-nominate for either position.

Presidential Search Update

Posted:

From the Chair of the Presidential Search Committee

Dear Buffalo State Community,

This past week has been a productive one for the Presidential Search Committee. We met on Thursday, February 20, to approve the final advertising plan and an aggressive work plan to identify our next president.

Our timeline is built on the assumption that three to five finalists will be invited to campus as early as the last two weeks of April and no later than May 9. We hope that our recommendations can be acted on at the June meeting of the SUNY Board of Trustees.

Recruiting by Jessica Kozloff, our consultant from Academic Search, has begun. Thank you to all members of the campus community who provided valuable feedback to Jessica during her visit last week.

Advertisements have been placed in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, and other online publications that have a national reach. The search committee will begin its applicant evaluation in a few weeks. Ken O'Brien, our SUNY liaison, was in attendance at our meeting and will continue to assist us as we move forward.

The first phase of this search will be confidential, but be assured that we will engage in a public vetting of our finalists and will seek the input of the campus community during their campus visits.

Thank you for your continued support and participation in this important process.

Sincerely,

Howard Zemsky
Chair, Presidential Search Committee
Chair, SUNY Buffalo State Council

Dr. Muriel A. Howard Presidential Award for Equity and Diversity

Posted:

From the Chief Diversity Officer
The Dr. Muriel A. Howard Presidential Award for the Promotion of Equity and Campus Diversity recognizes faculty and staff members who promote respect for diversity and individual differences through classroom discussions, curricular experiences, out-of-classroom activities, projects, conversations, or special mentorships that go beyond what is usually expected as a part of their regular job expectations or teaching assignments.

We welcome nominations from students, faculty, and staff so that we might acknowledge members of our community who reflect the values of respect for diversity and advocacy for social justice at a luncheon on Tuesday, April 22.

The award criteria and nomination form can be found on the Equity and Campus Diversity website. The application deadline is close of business Friday, March 7.
