Jevon Hunter to Present at Secondary Education Brown Bag Lecture Series: February 6, Bengal Pause

Posted:

Jevon Hunter, assistant professor of elementary education and reading, will present "Be Prepared to Go for Broke: Re/Imagining Literacy in English Language Arts (and Beyond)" at the Secondary Education Brown Bag Lecture Series on Thursday, February 6, from 12:15 to 1:25 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 313.

Hunter's talk advocates a reimagining of literacy education and examines how teachers’ classrooms can be leveraged as tools to accomplish this goal. To support his argument, Hunter will share data from his current research projects with Buffalo youth, their classroom teachers, and SUNY Buffalo State teacher candidates.

Hunter's teaching and research interests examine the ways literacy influences urban learning environments that dis/mis/empower youth, their teachers, and families. He has published in Pedagogies, English Journal, and the Journal for Language and Literacy Education (forthcoming). Currently he is focused on helping increase the literacy opportunities of youth in Buffalo and Rochester.

The Secondary Education Brown Bag Lecture Series is a free speaker series open to all faculty, students, and members of the Buffalo State community. Topics focus on issues affecting teaching and learning in secondary schools across all content areas. Attendees are invited to bring a lunch. Light refreshments will be served. The series is sponsored by the English Education Student Association at Buffalo State.
