Digital Signage Training

Posted:

Digital signage is a valuable tool designed to engage and inform the campus community with visual messages to students, faculty, staff, and visitors through the broadcast of events and the distribution of other information of interest to the campus (e.g., campus services, public service announcements, campus events). Content is intended to augment other means of communication to help promote campus events, registration or other deadlines, and educational opportunities. Digital signage may also be used to highlight student work via video or PowerPoint presentation.

Buffalo State currently uses a software program called Visix, by Axis TV, for digital signage. AxisTV provides a campuswide training series online via synchronous webinar. Opportunities for small group trainings are available. To register for the trainings, please visit the CyberQuad Workshop Registration website.

Please contact Melaine Kenyon, ext. 6679, with questions related to this training.

The Anne Frank Project: 2014 Theme, Call for Proposals

Posted:

The Anne Frank Project is proud to announce its sixth annual conference:

AFP 2014: Change through Stories
September 8–10

We are asked to be flexible, adapt, and move forward in times of change, but that isn't always easy. Stories can guide us. Stories fuel or extinguish change: they are either expressed or suppressed. AFP 2014: Change through Stories is a laboratory and a meeting place for all disciplines to tell stories that inspire change, engage people in the lessons of those stories, and provide tools and vocabulary that encourage people to change their world.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ? Margaret Mead

Buffalo State Cares: QPR Training Workshops for Students, Faculty, Staff, and Groups

Posted:

The Counseling Center offers free QPR training on a monthly basis and upon request. QPR stands for question, persuade, and refer—three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. People trained in QPR learn to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone for help. We would like Buffalo State to be a community of upstanders as opposed to bystanders. It is a myth that asking if a vulnerable person is considering suicide gives that person the idea. Instead, it lowers anxiety, opens up communication, and lowers the risk of an impulsive act. The goal is not to be a counselor but to listen and know where to refer a struggling person for professional help. Help is available 24 hours a day by calling (800) 273-TALK (8255). We can create a safety net for our community by listening nonjudgmentally and instilling hope.

Workshops will be conducted in Weigel Health Center 203 (second floor) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. February 12, March 10, and May 5. Look for additional QPR trainings in April for Mental Health Awareness Week. Additional trainings are available for classes or other campus organizations upon request.

Ask a question, save a life---be an upstander!
